Forget about today's 'news', it will continue forever. Forget about the BT 'special' phone.....waste of money. I'm plagued with these parasites nearly every day.

My solution? My phone is unplugged permantly. If any friends or family want to contact me  they text me and I phone them back.

The reason I don't have the BT phone is because some of my friends and family are ex-directory and there number comes up withheld.

Anybody else had to go to this extreme?

My phone blocks all calls where the number has been withheld.
As for others I tell them I'm deaf and constantly ask them to repeat.
I also deliberately mishear, normally pi55e5 them off.

I use TPS it does filter a good few out, if it comes up withheld I know it's family, if it comes up International I laugh my nuts off and if I don't recognise it I let it go to answerphone. Sorted.

The problem there Aka is that these shysters can now phone you with what comes up as a legitimate number.
Report stewarty b February 25, 2015 9:47 PM GMT
I'm also registered with TPS BB, but to no avail.

its really easy, you just don't answer any calls from numbers you don't recognize.

works for me.

I know what you mean Platini, but it doesn't stop the phone ringing if your hungover or unwell and having a lie down.
Report Emden February 25, 2015 10:57 PM GMT
the shysters are now using local area codes so you will answer.

Read about a bloke who converted his home phone into a premium number (£1.50 a minute or something like that). He made a packet talking endless nonsense to all sundry.

"converted his home phone into a premium number"

that's genius Laugh

Why was my last post deleted???
Report stewarty b February 26, 2015 6:05 PM GMT
I said that I was buying a new phone with an on/off ringer on it so that would mean I wouldn't hear it and the answer machine would take any messages. Why would Betfair delete that?
Report stewarty b February 26, 2015 6:37 PM GMT
E.Mail sent. I'm truly perplexed about this.
Report Burton-Brewers February 26, 2015 6:53 PM GMT
they tried to ring you but you hung up
Report stewarty b February 26, 2015 7:00 PM GMT
Seriously BB, I've no idea why they deleted my post. Nothing untoward in it whatsoever. I thought for a moment I had posted it on another thread by mistake, but no. I await their reply.

The system has been playing up the past few days Stew, might just be a glitch.
Report akabula February 26, 2015 7:05 PM GMT
Same here Poppydog. Not as much as 40 but certainly a lot less now.
Report stewarty b February 26, 2015 7:05 PM GMT
Cheers Aka. I thought for a while I was in trouble because I couldn't post.

I never answer the landline, I don't know my number and I've never given it out to anybody yet it rings three or four times a day. On he odd occasion I do answer it I always ask them to take me off their mailing list, I doubt they do though.
Report stewarty b February 26, 2015 7:14 PM GMT
The most annoying thing is the majority of times my phone goes and it's a spamster it's not even a human being that I'm listening to it's a recorded message. And although the give you a number to remove you from their mailing list, within a month the calls start again.

we have tps but every few weeks we'll get a burst over a couple of days, so likely it's one company at a time and then they flog your details on

i've found the best way to get rid of them is to keep them on the phone as long as possible and wind them up, eventually they seem to catch on and they take you off their calling list themselves

i've had a right laugh and whilst it used to pish me off now i actually look forward to playing with them, sadly i've not had a call for a month

some of my best results were keeping a "computer expert" on line for 45 mins as he tried to get me to log into an etch a sketch, claiming i knew the cold caller and talking to him about our days on the youth team at chelsea and getting one of them to help me with my next chess moves as he tried to do a survey on shopping habits

The best part is at 46 secs when after getting loads of abuse he still says "all's it takes is a couple of seconds". Laugh
