I'm reading the local paper for Castleton, and the classified has people selling logs.
One says the price is £70 for 1.5 bulk bags - wtf pricing system is that
Another says £55 per cubic metre - that's more like it, we can visualise how much
All the rest just say 'seasoned' 'barn dried' etc with no prices.
When you scan the local paper for cars or houses, they tell you what you'll get, at least in theory, and you can pop round and have a look first.
But these log sellers, with the discounted 5% VAT you suspect they dodge, and anyone with a barn probably gets a government handout, and the carbon trust telling you that burning wood is 'carbon neutral' as you're only returning to nature what nature took out anyway when the tree grew. These log sellers have life good in many ways - so why can't they advertise in a consistent way.

In rural France, the local log sellers quote a unit called a "Stere" which is an old term for a cubic metre. This is pretty standard so your "cubic metre" man is playing by the book.

It should be stacked in metre lengths on the trailer so it's easy to verify quantity before offloading.

Getting the size right seems to be the burning issue
We seem to have reached a cord on this issue.

I pay £45 for one of those big builders dump bags delivered, and it's really good stuff, seasoned and 3 years old etc.
I have had wood burners since 1987 and have never yet bought any wood.
All you need is a dog to walk twice a day and no sense of embarrassment in front of the neighbours at dragging half a dead poplar tree out of the river and carrying it home over your shoulder.
Plus a large bow saw and, of course, the biggest chopper you can handle.
A greenhouse is handy for seasoning recently fallen branches after you've split them.
Always save all the twigs, offcuts and sawdust in strong binliners - they makes much better kindling than bits of plywood, as they build a proper bed.

I always test them with a moisture meter, they will tell you anything these days, seasoned my ~*#%.
What sort of percentages are we looking for for green, seasoned etc.?

Tremendous name Log Sellers. What happened to bloke/farmer who sold firewood ? 40 euros a cubic metre here in Holland.
Gas is a lot less hassle.....a nice Mr Putin pumps it all the way from Siberia at reasonable rates.
Does Mr P sell it by cubic metre or by the volume of a jack boot.
