Indeed Mr.B, bubble and squeak = Greek. I had a good evening playing poker in Vegas one night with 7 Americans and two other Londoners and we were using cockney betting slang to let each other know what we were holding or waiting for, the septics had no idea what we were talking about. When waiting for the flop I randomly said I hoped to climb Ben Nevis one day. Lo and behold a 7 turned up and the Londoners both folded straight away. I got two callers when I had the nuts.

They (the butchers), all used cockney rhyming slang. I hadn't got a clue what they were on about to start with, but slowly picked it up.
Middle of fooking Brum it was, so no idea why they used CRS

My Dad taught me a bit of Gaelic and we spoke in that lingo when we didn't want people knowing what we were talking about, same sort of thing.
My mom (from Cork) GRHS, tried to teach us Gaelic when we were kids. What a tough language it is to learn.

Emden, A friend told me she worked in a butchers in the black country when she was young and she said they used a type of slang so that the customers didn't know what they were talking about. It seems it was back slang rather than CRS.

The Irish here are always mimicking my 'cockney' accent but they sound like Dick Van **** in Mary Poppins when they mimic it. They dont understand there is a difference between Eastend cockney and Southeast slang. Gawd help me, Im not even a real cockney, ffs.

Slightly off topic but my elder sister (God rest) said things she had no idea what they meant.
A spinster and mega religious person, and a buyer for a large department store.
God knows what her suppliers made of her, over lunch, when she used words she had no idea what they meant.
E.g...... It's Crap.....it's Brass Monkeys and, not forgetting....it's like a Glory Hole
