He was put down not long after that.

I have a large framed print of One Man / Brian Harding / 18th March 1998 in my hallway.

When he was killed at Aintree , it was the only time I thought about packing in following racing , I was devastated .

Was an awful day when he died.

I remember before the Aintree race the BBC filmed John Hales in the saddling boxes and he was saying to One Man that when he had raced there would be a lovely green field waiting for him.

Heartbreaking.

Probably would if you lost backing it to win the Gold Cup and managed to get a few quid
back when they eventually found the right trip

One of the first horses I 'fell in love with' when I got into racing, probably because of, not despite his failings in the Gold Cup.

When he did win the QMCC, it was like a total vindication of what all real racing fans (with jumps racing blood in their veins)knew about the horse.

I'm with you too MD. I was at Aintree the day he died - he just did not take off at the first fence down the back straight - and it was the only time I left a racecourse early and in tears. It just seemed a waste of time to carry on that day because I couldn't get any enjoyment from it.

Fantastic to watch and a real shame he was lost at Aintree shortly after. My Dad followed the horse from his early days with Arthur doing the rounds in Northern novice hurdles all the way unit il his untimely death and he effectively was a horse I grew up with. I remember my old man having £30 on him to win the Hennessy prior to the horse putting Jodami in its place at either Ayr or wetherby (I think). It won hard held and it was a small fortune to my old man at the time.

Horse was a joy to watch and although not a fan of Graham Goode is commentary on the race reflects everything you feel as a fan of the horse.

I just watched the 1986 and 1987 Gold Cup.  First 2 I remember.  Particularly remember of the snow.  Dawn Run would've been a big price in running in 1986!
