wife made a big pot of soup last night  ,before she went out today she tasted and said it needed something  ,was  butternut and chili .

decided to add a wee bit of this and that ,some chili powder/cayenne pepper/ginger powder/salt/pepper /paprika /ect ect   ,well its a bit hot  so added some pineapple to cool it down ,still a bit hot so added a cucumber and some leek ,going to get the food mixer into it but think a may have fooked it up tbh .

should i just flush it down the bog and tell her i knocked the pot over or is there a chance it may come together after a boil and simmer ?

could i turn it into  a curry ?

Any help appreciated .

If you find anything too hot a squeeze of lemon juice will tone it down a bit.

Drop a couple of Pigs cheeks in there .

Making soup with a huge varied cast list of ingredients is great fun.

Butternut squash, Sweet potatoes , leeks , carrots , peas , onions , spring onions , mushrooms ....then add basil , chillis , mustard , Marmite .......

blend and enjoy.

OK cheers ,but a think its past the recovery stage  ,just has a bite to it ,maybe go down the curry route (chicken )

would still need summit to mellow it though ,coconut ? or summit ....no longer a soup imo

no but you have given me an idea ,tommy toes will be going in the s̶o̶u̶p̶  curry Wink
Report DStyle February 17, 2015 9:23 PM GMT
coconut milk was the right answer about 8 hours ago (before you put the cucumber in).

fat and volume are the only two ways to really reduce the heat.

hehehe breadnbutter!
Report breadnbutter February 17, 2015 10:03 PM GMT
the cucumber was a massive mistake ,the soup never stood a chance after that ,never thought it had such a strong taste ,thought it would be more neutral.

that pot a s̶o̶u̶p̶  curry is like my betting just now Cry

if this is a fishing thread then it is not bad, certainly seen worse,  But if that opening post is even only half truthful it is absolutely hilarious.  "Added loads of curry powder thought it was a bit hot so I added a pineapple". Wtf, Are you a proper mentalist?
Report Coachbuster February 17, 2015 10:46 PM GMT
if i fokked anything up i'd simply add a tube or two of tom puree to turn it into a spicy tomato soup - but not sure why you added pineapple  Confused
Report Coachbuster February 17, 2015 10:46 PM GMT
stick in a load of bell peppers too  i suppose

Have you got a couple of slices of cucumber left over?
Report Aunty Post February 18, 2015 12:12 PM GMT
sweat and sour

That is really thinking "out of the box"!

A tale of total incompetency and certainly not worth chucking any more at it.

The potatoes is a good shout but, by then you will be putting carrots, parsnips, turnip, onions, half a bottle of a good Shiraz etc,

and dumplings to finish.

So you will have an expensive, and inedible stew, in a rancid sauce.
Report breadnbutter February 18, 2015 12:28 PM GMT
the sweat and sour was a sauce for the pork chops ,that was the tea ,pork chop s+s casserole served with rice and nan (not so good tbh)

although i did put the remnants in the soup Grin

just turned the  cooker on and will taste later and will begin adjusting and  hopefully after a fine tune or two it will be ready for tea

sent a SOS (save our soup ) to my ma and awaiting a reply Grin ,if anyone can save it she can .

Report rob_dylan February 18, 2015 4:39 PM GMT
The heat isn't the problem men.  It is the fact he has chucked a pineapple and a cucumber in it.  The game is up, this is an ex soup.
Report Coachbuster February 18, 2015 4:39 PM GMT
Butternut squash  best if marinated in garlic with tarragon - no use on it's own .

Non veggies need to know how to get the best out of foods to get the results ,otherwise it will be a boring  meal ,just meat and 2veg Happy

ok lads ,amazing what a night sitting can do for a pot of soup ,was a diff mixture this morning and after the addition of some water and some mashed potato/cream/coconut milk  i now have  a gallon and a half of reasonably good tasting soup.
Needed a slight adjustment just a bit tangy on the pineapple and  have put a very small amount of tica masala powder in and a very little  tom puree and a bit more salt and a dash of mustard and vinegar .Just turned the cooker off and tasted and its nearly there .
Its a complicated taste of tangy aromas and an after heat but not too hot anymore .

Another night standing will not do it any harm .
of course you never know until you are a few spoonfuls in but seems not bad
Report Tommy Toes February 18, 2015 11:11 PM GMT

Why not stick an Aubergine in it?

You've got a gallon and a half!!?  FFS you only set out to make two pints. How many times have you transferred it to a bigger pan? Laugh
Report breadnbutter February 19, 2015 1:16 PM GMT
started and finished in a  family size pressure cooker ,gallon and a half a slight overestimation ,about 6L .

Taste changed a bit today and still a tad  tangy (pinapple/peppers) just needs a very slight adjust but cant decide what would be right .

will be ideal on the fancy  smaller deco  plates ,arranged neatly around some noodles/seawead with a tomatoe garnish center piece  and some cream zig zag artwork to finish it off .

fresh celery and  dip should compliment nicely .

Another night standing will not do it any harm .

reminds me of the story of the invention of worcestershire sauce. Lea and Perrins found that their attempt at recreating a recipe brought back from India, tasted f*cking disgusting, and left their miserable swill in their basement for a couple of years. Two years later, they went back and had a taste and liked it, bottled it and sold it.
