How on earth do the TV companies recoup their expenditure, given that the product itself is so drab?

Stadium Match day costs to Stoke we'll say 1/2 million.
Squad/Management wages for one game at a guess £2 mil.
Insurance circa. 1/4 million.

Thats under 3 million lets say, so who is getting the other £23 million per home game ?

I don't want to say it's ridiculous cos in 3 yrs time when the next package goes for £10bn this will look reasonable - given the money, its a damning indictment that the top players play in Spain. A player like aguerro is not far behind Messi, ronaldo, suarez, neymar, but if he took the next stop he would be on the next plane in a shot

Just wondering why all these rich shareholders and chairmen want involved in PL teams considering most of them have no affiliation with the actual club.

Last time I went to a Premiership match I was surrounded by tourists and not fans of the teams playing. Admittedly I had taken 2 of the tourists.

i'm sick of these tourists turning up with their cameras, with no inclination to chant, buy pies or go topless.

If you told supporters 20  years ago clubs would get tens of millions a year from tv companies to show live games & then asked them how much would you think it would cost to watch a game at the ground how much would they say it would cost in today's money, a tenner maybe fifteen quid, to say its scandalous to charge £50 plus for a top game when the clubs receive so much revenue from sky etc is an understatement, once Rooney got 300k  that was it for me, its a rich man's game now & its  the one sport that should never have gone that way.

EPL full of plastic clubs now but still not as bad as PVC Eindhoven.

English football now is just a massive pi$$ take.

Ok, Rooney's on £300k per week but what people don't realise is that after he's had tax deducted and paid his agent, he's probably got less than £150k left.

If Sky stuck all the Premier League games on a dedicated channel and offered a cheaper package for all the other sport only, I wonder how popular Premier League football would actually turn out to be.

Same here Wesdag, some clown on a forum weeks ago was accusing us of stealing from the sport.

Not like sky took the game away from the masses and handed it to the few then.

The notion of ordinary citizens like us "stealing from the sport" of football is indeed hilarious.

I'm afraid that the ordinary citizen is way at the back of an enormous queue when it comes from 'stealing' from football. There is an entire industry, from top to bottom, dedicated to doing that for umpteen years.  We don't even get a look in.

Until fans tire of getting bent over by Sky/BT, this farce will continue.

The problem is, BT/Sky & the Premier League are all organised and act in concert in this legalised theft.

The fans sadly are not.

This could never happen on the continent.

Once again, the English/British get shafted, moan then shrug their shoulders and keep on getting shafted.

At the moment i pay for 4 season tickets. 3 will be gone after the season ends. This isn't a cutback on funds, but a decision i took a while back on a fukwit who was given a new contract when he should have been given a job on Huytons bins. I love my club but when i see things like that it rather annoys me.

The same will go for Sky if (and when) the prices go up. My club will be a lot better off (minus my considerably loss to them) from next season, but i will not be helping Sky along with this new deal..

To put how rotten this game has become, into some perspective, the income from the first 9000 season tickets
sold, by all 20 premier clubs, went to agents last season.
And this was only their cut of transfer deals. It doesnt include the 10pc or so they got from their players.

so much for the 5% they were supposed to give to grass roots football as from 1999 from the tv money. According to Radio4 they have averaged 1% a season since.

averagge attendances from 1991-1992 - the idea that everthing was rosy back then before sky is rose tinted nostalgia.

Tickets may have been cheaper but that was mainly because no one wanted to go.

I look forward to Sky bumping up the cost of Sky Sports by another £10 a month so the mercenary players can add another 0 to their salary.

Chelsea 18k - what a big club they were

they had a woman agent on the radio last night, and she was asked if her clients would mind giving up 1% of their salary so it could be invested in grass roots football. She said the foreign players wouldn't do it because basically they are greedy, she was quite confident the English ones all would though and then she said she would just get the clubs to give her clients a 1% pay rise. ffs

I bet this 'grassroots' spending is all controlled by clubs anyway. Anyone have any example of how it is spent?

it goes to county FA's to distribute and football league grants for lower league clubs, the National Lottery is probably contributing more at the moment.
