You can get little fireproof cash boxes and safes, I'd either get one big enough for an external 2.5" drive or use USB sticks. A normal safe isn't enough, the fireproof ones have special linings to distance the internals from the outside.

Fireproof chests/documents safes, large range of them, like £25-50

Cheers just checking. Are fire proof hard drives worth the money ?

I don't know about them. Personally I'd go for chest or even safe?
That way you can keep USB sticks, hard drive, new hard drive when that one fails, passport, birth certificate etc in them. A safe you can screw them to the floor so someone can't just climb out a window with it, but they'd be more expensive. Even Argos even sell fireproof boxes. |

When we paid off our house we received the title deeds but rather than hand them over to a solicitor to keep we purchased a fireproof box.
It was either Argos or some other high street store and cost £32. BTW the reason we didn't use a solicitor is cos they lost the deeds to a flat we'd inherited and cost us loads of time and trouble when trying to sell it. |

Re usb and hard drives -- yes, the term you need to search for is rugged (two syllables) as in "rugged usb drive" or similar (though an alternative might be to back up your files to the cloud).

Cheers all. Looked at safe but not sure where I'd fit it as pretty much all floors are wood.

MT the problem of course with having such things on a single hard drive is hard drives and do fail anyway, it's happened to me. Of course yours might just be backups anyway but if not I'd have say two 2.5" drives and keep a copy on both, I'd never keep anything important on just one drive. I've had a new barely used USB stick just die as well, I'd trust a decent hard drive far more. USB Sticks are fanastic and really handy, but I wouldn't depend on one!

Tree if all the pics are as bad as your mugshot I wouldn't bother..in fact I'd be tempted to wipe the drives

It's said that unless something digital has 3 copies, it may well not exist. Hard drive, external drive & dvd minimum

How much information are you talking about here?
If its not loads you could try signing up to a few free cloud services to store copies of it in different places. If you you are worried about the security of the files you can encrypt it beforehand. There is some info here but a quick google search will give you more: . http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/free-online-storage |
