If anyone from the audience can successfully lie to the performer they get £1,000. Got me thinking how would I try and lie about something in order to best conceal a lie. I think I would randomise my actions in order not to be influenced. I believe in hypnosis and the ability to tell if a person is lying but I think they both have  limits and I personally think these performers who claim to be mentalists/mind readers are combining simple magician tricks to create an illusion of being able to read minds in a way which is not possible.

What are your thoughts.

You're thinking of the Jack of Hearts.

Depends on the question

That's the point crisp. He answers the questions he asks. I simply don't believe a psychological mind reader could predict things with 100% certainty every time. It must be a trick. Watched some clips and he says he sometimes plants information in a persons head so they are not making a free choice while other times he removes choices from a persons mind as a persuader so they can only chose a certain thing. I don't buy it.

To remove any doubt there is trickery I would want to be the one asking the question for him to answer. Not have him answer his own question.

You are supposed to look up to the left when you are remembering something that actually happened and up to the right when you are inventing something. I doubt it's universally true all the time, but I guess the majority of people are unaware of it. It'd be pretty easy to see if the person fit the pattern - unless the subject knew and was deliberately doing something different to try to deceive the mentalist, in which case the mentalist would probably spot it and not use the person, maybe.

Beware.  He'll probably ask if you're a raging homosexual and, when you say no, much to everyone's amusement a buzzer will sound to alert the audience that you're lying.

Agree there are physical tells which most people cant control or even know exist which can predict to a certain degree if a person is lying.
