When Muhammed Ali and Pele were famous, the world's population was literally half what it is now and so was the world's media outlets, and then some.....45 years later with a population increase of 3.5 billion along with mass media...makes today's sportsman much more famous as there are more people aware of them at their height, we know more about them than we did about stars of the 60's and 70's, people today are obviously aware of Pele and Ali, but their level of fame is nowhere near the same level of intensity that the likes of Usain Bolt and Messi receive because of how much they are exposed mainly due to the huge growth and accessibility of global television, they are more famous now and will be when they are long since retired and the next generation grow up without even have seen pele/ali alive,....in the distant future when the population is 14 billion and people are having to climb over each other to get to the shops, the next band of high profile sportsman will be the most famous.
