High heels thingies -- sold 53,000 this year already -- looks like a good idea -- I'm in.

Remote-controlled lightbulbs -- a cut-down version of apps like hive for central heating, I suppose. I guess this is what Peter was saying, but I reckon there is a big market for the cheaper but less comprehensive app. Yes, he can't take on Philips but he probably doesn't have to.
Report Ramruma January 26, 2015 8:28 PM GMT
Leggings -- I'm out.

High vis horsey kit -- not really sure why she needed a dragon -- so it's a fair investment -- so I'm in.

Sandwich boards -- too much talk about ethics so it was not really clear what the investment was.

Photo booths -- embarrassing they did not know Peter Jones owned one of their main competitors (Jessops). Surely the downside is servicing: if they need staff to refill paper, chemicals and so on, then presumably there will be a scale problem when they are no longer small enough to do it themselves but not big enough to justify a whole team of agents. Maybe it will be like printers: send out a pack for the venue to do it. I'm out. Three dragons though, and they went for the one wanting the highest stake.

Shoe sole stickers -- surely wants the Dragons to make phone calls to retailers rather than invest.

Food -- nice idea but I'm not sure online is the best way to sell time-critical food; might do better as a broker to existing retailers but that would hurt margins.

Coffins -- seemed like a good idea and I'm surprised no-one invested.

Electric toothbrushes -- not sure the tootbrush will ever be a fashion item but would be handy so family members can tell theirs apart -- maybe this is a better market for the shoe sole sticker woman's idea. Guy was not the first to misunderstand the difference between the value of a company now and what it might be worth in 3 years time once it has some profit and assets.

Chess sets -- no. Niche market of people paying for exclusivity.

Clothes -- 4 dragons on offer; 2 accepted.

Report Ramruma February 9, 2015 8:19 PM GMT
£1,200 is not a lot for some of them, although I don't suppose they do it for the money.

The one that always surprises me is Top Gear, where genuine class A celebrities give up their time for "star in a reasonably-priced car". I don't know how long it takes but it must be the best part of a day for training with the Stig and the lap, and then later the interview with Jeremy Clarkson.
Report Wesdag February 10, 2015 11:17 PM GMT
^ Top Gear being the most widely watched factual television programme in the world might have something to do with it.

Catching up on iplayer

Boat anti-pirate thingy -- £195,000 is too rich for the Dragons, so it does not really matter how efficient his chemical warfare drones are.

Mobile phone pen -- WTF?

Ice cream -- it was pretty clear she wants a dragon's name and little black book rather than cash. I'll look out for it in Waitrose.

Bike noise -- I'm surprised none of them invested but I hope for the sake of the queen's peace the children's version does not take off round my way.

Babies' boxes -- what's the point?

Shopping app -- if he's just raised £475,000 why does he need another £75,000 from a dragon? Interesting to watch Peter talk himself into making an offer, and then to see it turned down.
Report Crisp77 February 16, 2015 7:54 AM GMT
It wasn't really a proper offer from Peter for the app. He valued the whole company at £375k knowing the fella had sold part of the business for £475k. There was no way the bloke could accept unless he wasn't confident in his app.
