not a comedy, but if you ever get the chance to see "Dead of night", made at Ealing, that is definitely a film that will stay in your mind for a long time.

The Lady Killers and The Titfield Thunderbolt for me. The former because the cast is brilliant, the latter because it's great to see England in colour in all its virtually unspoilt summer glory.

I watched The Maggie recently, that's a terrific one too, completely different from the likes of 'Pimlico' and 'Lady Killers', but just as good in its own unique way.

"Dead of Night' is indeed an unforgettable film. Saw it as a kid and made a big impression on me.  Even now all these years later it is still revered by fans of the 'horror' genre. I suspect most will remember it for the crazed ventriloquist and his deadly dummy, but the story that stayed with me concerned a mirror which gives out the wrong reflection.

As for the comedies, it's hard to look past "KInd Hearts and Coronets" and "Passport to Pimlico".

So many to choose from but I do have a soft spot for The Man In The White Suit, the background music sticks in your head for hours afterwards Plain

Dead of Night is certainly imprinted on my memory from childhood. For years (pre-Internet and particularly IMDB days) I knew I'd seen the film but didn't know its name, hoping I'd stumble across it on TV one afternoon/night.

There's a similar Ealing film made the year before Dead of Night, also with Mervyn Johns, called Halfway House, about some travellers stumbling across an old inn that seems to be a year behind the times.
