Sometimes, in the real world, countries have to be pragmatic. Saudi produces about 14% of the world's oil. If you want to keep the lights on and your central heating working and your buses and trains and air-planes and your little run-around, in fact pretty much everything that gets produced in the world, including your computer and your mobile phone, running then best keep them onside.

Wesdag... Get real. Countries have vital interests that are necessary to try to protect in order to provide a degree of security, jobs and a standard of living. Politicians have to cosy up to some unpleasant people as a matter of national interest. Yeah, let's put the whole world, including ourselves, on the naughty step, shall we... get real!

The people that need to 'get real' are the hypocrites who have one rule for one and one rule for another in the name of short term national interest. The blowback from these actions is getting worse and worse and will one day spiral out of control. The current Western strategy will not end well for us.

The alternative as far as the Saudis is concerned is to invest in energy storage but too many people at the top make too much money from oil - yet more short-termism.
