The oil company retail bonds may be worth a gamble. Enquest and Premier oil are two that I'm aware of. I have a small amount in Premier Oil. I was hoping that the good folk who write on fixedincomeinvestor would do an updated view on these, but no luck yet.
It's all about risk/reward.
Premier oil (2020) are currently yielding 8.74% Enquest (2022) are currently yielding 14.97%

Are you confusing me with someone else? I have never put more than ca 5-6 % of my wealth into gold. I have only traded in ETFs and would not have won or lost anything significant on gold or silver ETFs.

I bought some gold coins in ignorance of the mark up. Bought at between £350 and £550 as an investment not realising at the time that it was a poor investment. The wife wanted a new car and some other stuff so sold the coins at, I think,an average of £1k, to fund it. Bought in ignorance then sold rather than dip into savings and cleared up. Who says you need to know anything.
