In the late 1930s, most German newspapers carried insulting anti Semitic cartoons and caricatured Jews as evil and money grubbing. We know what happened next, so is it really OK to protect those who, according to many of its followers, insult Islam and the prophet? Should we really not care about "Life of Brian" etc?I'm not religious btw. Just a thought.
Did the Hitler/Nazis/German newspapers in 1930s every insult the Jewish religion? (Adam/Eve, Moses, Abraham, waiting for the Messiah etc etc) or were their insults at the Jewish race?
All religions make extraordinary claims with no evidence. People have the right to make fun of these claims/ideas.

But scandy you're the guy that said Lewis Hamilton wasn't popular because he is black. Then he went and won SPOTY despite honky McIlroy's acheivement being greater. With the greatest of respect you're a clown. Printing the front cover of Charlie isn't a reprisal it is reporting the news ffs.Rob, I can't take lectures from someone who openly mocks a stroke victim. Hamilton didn't win SPOTY because he is suddenly ultra popular, it's because the people who voted are much more likely to be motor sports fans than golf fans, there have been black winners before him. And if you read my post properly, the reprisal I was talking about was in reference to likeliness the extremists acting upon these cartoons bein republished here,
Music is haram in Islam.
Maybe people in western countries should stop making music - incase it offends extremists of Islam?

There is logic in that approach....the crocodile may have a heart attack or be killed by a Hippo before it comes to him.
You are assuming there is only one crocodile out there.

Dr Crippen that's just the thing, those cartoons should never have been published in France from the beginning so it shouldn't be about given in, but righting a wrong in the first place, I couldn't care less for religion personally as I think it's a load of bollox, but the desecration of such an important figure to 1.3 billion and expecting no backlash is stupid. And by constantly republishing them and expecting no backlash again is even more stupid. That's just the way it is. It's not a matter of appeasment but respect, I don't go around saying "seasons" greeting to people at Christmas for example as that would be appeasement, it's Merry Christmas from me The knuckle dragger can throw throw their arms up in the air as much as they want if it makes them feel better but it will get them nowhere in the end. An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.An Eye for an Eye Will Make the Whole World BlindMohandas Gandhi
These 1.3 billion will only get offended if they purchase the magazine.
If a North Korean or Cuban magazine had printed cartoons of this Muhammed, would those 1.3 billion be just as offended?

They normally sell 60,000. I think it's safe to say that some will be offended, whether they buy it or not.
I dont understand why a muslim in Indonesia would be offended by a cartoon by a magazine sold in France or anywhere else in the world.
But they have the right to take offence. Just dont blow themselves or other people up. Or try and change the laws of other countries.

I don't mean to be disrespectful Get on massive, but you must have a bit more going on upstairs ? I'm not explaining simplicity any further after this. The very most sacred thing to the biggest religion on the planet is their prophet, and it's been disrespected over and over, and you are making comparisons to pork? Selling pork is not mocking a religion, selling magazines depicting a prophet is clearly sacrilegious and asking for trouble. What I have always said is though, is that multiculturalism is clearly unworkable based on the last few thousand years
The success of multiculturalism depends a lot on the cultures you are mixing.

Also 9/11, 7/7, Madrid bombings. tiger tiger attempted bomb plot, ricin bomb plot, liquid bomb plot, Lee rigby killing, Boston bomb etc etc
None have had to do with cartoons of the prophet or disrespecting him.
So if that is the "very most sacred thing to the biggest religion on the planet", we seem to get lots of violence without that being a factor.

maybe grow up time rob, you 36 not 6. If you have nothing that's worth saying on this than it's not worth saying anything at all, as they say, last thing I want to see is a more innocent people on out streets wound up dead, like lee rigby, it;s time to use intelligence on these things not adopt an Neanderthal like mentality.
So the obvious next step would be for blasphemy laws to protect Islam? What would be the range of punishments? A caution? community service? custodial sentence? something harsher?
