Quite disappointing, except for the bit where he beat Tiger Woods and the anecdote about Tiger that I'd never heard before...13/20.

Bright Lights Dark Shadows (The Real Story Of ABBA) - Carl Magnus Palm  (7/10)

good read tells of the very early years right up to the split. Also covers much of the financial side, found out quite a few things I'd never heard before. They were absolutely despised in Sweden more or less until they split, and when they did poor old Bjorn sold his rights to another company thinking their back catalogue would never earn much money.

The Glory Game by Hunter Davies.

An insight into Spurs players of the 60s and 70s. They always seemed to be scratching about for extra cash. The illustrator Paul Trevillion thinks up Leeds Utd. sock tags and dozens of gimmicks ; tries to sell his ideas to Pat Jennings, Martin Chivers ; eventually acts as an agent for some of the better known Spurs players. An appendix at the end describes players' houses. Players not really interested in any culture outside of football. Lists of their superstitions, etc. An interesting book, but depressing...can't be arsed reading the updated bit about Darren Anderton and Ramon Vega, etc...so the book has become bog fodder...14/22.

appreciate seems high for a new boy (!) but, to qualify, i would say both go into my Top 20 books read in terms of how much i've enjoyed them, and i'm 49 on Sunday, so high praise, i'm sure you'd agree!

[fwiw, to qualify further, others in Top 20 would be Grapes of Wrath, 100 Years of Solitude, The Great Gatsby, Moneyball, Amongst Women, Candide, Just Kids- Patti Smith etc etc)

Our Vegetarian Nan by Wendell and India Billington...the authors' nan arrives to take care of four kids, aged from 8 to 15, and gradually transforms their exercise and food habits. She also gives the kids free afternoon lectures on HOW TO UNLOCK FRESH FLAVOURS. There are illustrated bread making classes for children and parents too, though the author expressly forbids their use by single mothers.

Try to re-create red onion and rosemary tear & share bread with added honey from Northern Scotland...the Billingtons' nan also explains the principles of home freezing. There is a colourful chapter dedicated to soups, or rather, to use the Billingtons' Nan's terminology, "soupage": One possible highlight is Soupe de Pates avec une Variete de Haricots Fermentes, featuring spring cabbage and beans that have been fermented for a fortnight - surely a savoury treat for moody teenagers all over the land. Published privately by the Parmonardia & Hycolyte Press, but well worth tracking down. Copies can still be found for under eighty quid in Islington. The final SPECIAL BONUS chapter illustrates how to carve your own soup ladle using chisels and found wood, following a traditional Namibian design...38/70.

Just part way through it. First part based in USA fact finding, then moves to France and London. Had mixed reviews. The groupies loved it, but some of the more objective felt the book was something of a letdown and not up to the standards of his earlier books, before he started writing potential blockbuster movie type books. From what I've read so far, seems much like his usual stuff. I like them as they are pure escapism.
