I just thought I'd take a little time to make others aware of this energy company (if they don't know about them) and give the company a bit of praise - as too often we hear about other companies who are rubbish or who've treated their customers with pure disregard and I always think it's a good thing to give someone praise when they deserve it.

I'd been with SWALEC (a part of SSE) for quite a few years and had always been very happy with their customer service and prices until about October/November 2014, when they then sent me a letter about forthcoming price increases.

So I decided to try out USwitch comparison site to see which company would offer me the best deal and First Utility came out by far the best.

So I switched to them.

I knew the exact amount of gas and electricity I'd used in the previous 12 months as I had all my bills and calculated exactly how many kwatts etc I'd used and First Utility set up a Direct Debit based on exactly that figure, to be paid monthly.
No quibble. Very good.

Their website is very easy to use and very informative in letting you know exactly what you're using month by month and they e-mail you monthly so you can submit your meter readings on their site and they can calculate everything as you're going along.

I signed up for their price deal which lasts until this coming April (approx 17 months in all) and I was surprised and delighted to find an e-mail in my inbox yesterday which said that they have reduced my Direct Debits from January by a considerable amount as they've calculated I will have overpaid them come this April if I continued to pay the same.

Now, I don't know if other energy companies do the same - but it was a very good thing to find someone already reducing payments for you, rather than you having to spend hours on a 'phone trying to either; a)get your payments reduced or b)get your money back if and when you switch to another company.

They're not one of 'The Big 6' energy companies and I've seen their owner on various programmes in the last 12 months or so saying how they are committed to being one of the fairest utility companies around and not jumping on the cartel bandwaggon of the others.

If you're thinking of switching energy suppliers, give their site a go to calculate what you use (or how much you spend) and they'll give you a quote on what their prices/deal will be.

You might save yourself loads of money.

Good morning, Tommy - slept like a log last night.

Tommy, there's a lot to consider there. After I've had my WEETABIX and morning ORANGE juice I'll get my secretary to read it aloud.

Very funny Vel!

I know that utility companies' prices aren't as good for people living in one region as another but First Utility have been very good for me - and may well be for others too.

If you don't keep checking prices - and switching to lower ones - you're just playing into the hands of 'the big boys' who will do everything they can to keep robbing people to death.

The pong of fermented cabbage was overpowering. I was wondering if it could be used as a fuel.

Mr. Toes, I will say no more since this is a righteous winter fuel thread...I'll put you on hold, sir, while your billing enquiry is sorted out...

Now then my fermenting friend, I don't want to disappoint you by not agreeing with your likes in music, but I'm afraid U2 just pass me by. I never listen to them. They're just a sort of 'one sound fits every song and lyric' group to me.
Not saying I dislike them - but they're just...er...so U2!

Plus, I'm watching Kevin and Perry Go Large (again) on BBC1.

Ridiculous, juvenile humour - but, by heck, it really makes me laugh!

Apparently, I have heard they can't give away their stuff for free now...Sad

Having said that, there are very few songs featuring power companies in their title...such as Gazprom Ballad, Utility Power Cable Blues, etc., so the choice was quite limited in that respect.
