But when you hear a pre announcement announcement .. just like politicians and you hear .. slashing prices on Tetley and Hovis and Coca Cola you know they are really in a very bad mess.
|
|
By:
the shop is a rip off, they need to slash all their prices considerably and improve quality
|
|
By:
Surely that is good news for shoppers and only bad news if you're an investor.
|
|
By:
I don't know if they are good or bad but I do know that my wife never shops there.
|
|
By:
Tetley Hovis and Coke all make enormous mark ups. If the prices are cut it will be their choice.

exactly clunge - so it was a pretty poor pre announcement if thats the "good" news.

The beleaguered supermarket Tesco has said it will close 43 unprofitable stores across the UK - a "significant proportion" of which will be local convenience shops.
The firm is also shelving plans to open a further 49 new "very large" stores. Additionally, Tesco is closing its staff pension scheme, will make cuts of £250m, and reduce overheads by 30%. It comes after two years of troubles at Tesco, which has suffered falling sales and profit warnings. Last year, the company was embroiled in an accounting scandal, and saw the departure of some senior executives. However the retail giant, which has more than 3,300 stores in the UK, had a better Christmas than expected. Tesco also confirmed that two of its businesses - Tesco Broadband and online entertainment service Blinkbox, will be sold to TalkTalk. It also announced that Matt Davies, the boss of Halfords Group, will take charge of Tesco's operations in the UK and Republic of Ireland from June. Sales at the retail giant improved in the six week Christmas period, with grocery shopping up almost 13% on last year, and online clothing sales growing by more than 50%. Shares in Tesco rose by more than 5% in early trading on Thursday |

Doomed. The public have finally wised up to the big supermarkets and changed their shopping habits.
Tesco will never be able to compete with the the likes of Aldi and Lidl because while trying to conquer the world they have acquired enormous overheads which they can't get rid of quickly. Interesting though that Matt Davies has gone there from Halfords after only recently leaving Pets at Home. |

Not paying a dividend I believe either.

Additionally, Tesco is closing its staff pension scheme
Yeah, because it was the shelf-stackers who lied in the annual accounts, so they don't deserve good pensions. |

They all have their ups and downs.
Chartists will no doubt find it interesting that they've quickly pushed the shares through the immediate resistance to the left on the chart and the November buying. |

Thank you, I was wondering if you were keeping the movement alive, they seem more relevant now than ever.

It's clear that bb is emotionally involved with Tesco.

Fantastic news.
Glad to see their attempts to grab every penny people spend is failing. They are a rip-off outfit more concerned about lining the pockets of shareholders than providing value for customers. mysupermarket.co.uk - good site for price comparisons. |

I used to spend £150+ a week with them for all my shopping needs now I'll only go in when my parents get a £6 off £40 spend voucher and I will stock up on half price or bogof deals
Its not just the aldi/Lidl who have taken share off Tesco but you cant underestimate the impact of Home Bargains/B&M especially for non-food items ie air fresheners, toilet roll - I used to get all that from Tesco but now get them all for less than half price. I also will shop at Iceland for milk 89p for 4 pints ! |

^ Exactly, and all the other discount stores such as Poundland, 99p Stores, Poundstretcher, etc.
