Why employ a woman?
Report Torquemada • January 4, 2015 5:56 PM GMT

They're great, most croak before you have to pay them redundancy. Wink

Probably lots of firms don't want to take on smokers for the reasons you suggest but in many cases the smokers are just gossiping to each other in the cold instead of joining the non-smokers chatting by the water cooler or coffee machine.

I've never really worked in an environment (that's a harder word to spell than I thought it'd be!) where smoking couldn't be done while you were working, I'd guess it only really applies to office/warehouse workers and I'd be surprised if they were allowed to go for a ciggie whenever they wanted one. Most smokers will be smoking on their breaks, surely?
Report TheBetterBettor • January 4, 2015 7:11 PM GMT
ban the smoking breaks and allow e-smoking in the office.
Report Ivor • January 4, 2015 7:19 PM GMT
Cardiff City Council are introducing e-cig shelters so they are not adversely influenced by cig.smokers. TRUE!
Report Burton-Brewers • January 4, 2015 7:20 PM GMT
they're even banning smoking on the shop floor at engineering firms, load of crap
Report s.kenbo • January 4, 2015 7:20 PM GMT
Do firms have smoking breaks?

If you have a f@g before you go into work then you haven't got too long to wait until break time .
Report mange • January 4, 2015 7:21 PM GMT
Yes EU law
Report s.kenbo • January 4, 2015 7:22 PM GMT
We can't normally smoke on building sites, but the last two firms we've worked for don't mind it. Common sense imo.

Any warehouse with foodstuffs in it bans smoking inside.

Alcohol is also covered by the 'foodtuffs' heading.

Despite the fact no alcohol was exposed to the air, unless there was a spillage, there was a strict no smoking policy in Scottish Courage Distribution Centres, and if you got caught, it meant instant dismissal.

But there were rough times allowed for loading a dray, so if you had 10 minutes to spare before the next one, you had time for a smoke.

Due to certain parties taking exception to those who sneaked out for a smoke after taking too long to load drays, it was decided by management that only one black member of the staff, who was a Jamaican, should stay on dray loading.

All the africans were put back on picking duties, where they could be observed on cameras, as they were too slow.
