One of Mrs CMAT's Christmas gifts was a Kindle Fire.

My broadband is not wireless, which I'm told I need it to be for it to work.

How does she get connected?

I don't want to change to wireless.

Sarcasm, wit, humour, and hopefully, somewhere among the crap, the right answer, will appear.

If it was a normal kindle you could download books over any network like work or an internet cafe etc, but a fire is more a tablet so to get most benefit you'd want wireless really as it's less book oriented. You can stick a wireless router on a normal network for not much? Oh or modern phones can often be converted into temporary wireless hotspots but that would use up mobile data but that may be cheap/free on some phone plans.

i.e. a kindle, once books are donwloaded, they are there, you don't need to be connected to actually read them. You can even load some books on via USB.

I would think Mrs Taxi would be better off ditching you and moving in with a younger model who is more up to date and has the wireless option.
Hope this helps.

I've used my own phone as a little wifi hotspot at a push with a laptop, it worked. In fact for betfair that's worth knowing for you guys as if you are betting in play etc and your main internet goes down, it can be a backup to ditch your red.

You may find you have wireless but not realised it.

Upgrade your internet to BT fibre optic infinity (has wireless ...oc)

You have Sky?
Report The Leopard • January 3, 2015 12:23 AM GMT
When you upgrade it is often cheaper than what you have got at the moment.

.. but to be honest wifi is cheap and by far best option. FFS if you've broadband and no wifi what are you using, a 2002 USB modem?
Report Just Checking • January 3, 2015 12:24 AM GMT
You can get an ADSL wifi router for 20-30 quid.

Father-in-law went wireless two years ago, fack knows why, he has no other computer stuff, and he had nothing but problems for ages.

I've just turned over my Orange brightbox.

Apparently it's a Bright Box Wireless Router.

It has a wireless network name and a wireless password on the back.

What now?

List the advantages of not changing (are there any...?), you need to move with the times, however much it goes against your stubborn nature...!

What are the advantages of changing, apart from her Kindle Fire working.
Report Just Checking • January 3, 2015 12:59 AM GMT
LOL CMAT I hope you're not wasting our time :)
The router if it's wireless probably has two bits of a text on a sticker, a name and a password like
Orange151621
and
ZABC123HA

the first the name and the second the password.
On the fire, scan for wireless networks. If you see one with the same name as the sticker, then try to connect and type in the password (case sensitive) also on the sticker.

I rest my case.

Sorry just read rest of your post. I've already answered you.
The instructions for connecting to a fire to a router will be all over the amazon website.
AFAIK it's a b*stard version of android so even normal android wireless help may cover it.

Why would I be wasting your time?
I'm not a techie whizzkid, simple as that.
I'll try that in the morning.
I left it in the kitchen.

Sorry CMAT :)
There are wind up merchants on the internet. Once you've got WIFI you may meet a few :)
If you've a modern phone you can can also use the WIFI for internet as well. WIFI is great.

Basically the router has a name, you look for it on the fire, connect, make sure password correct, and it works.

You don't have to change to wireless for your computer, you can still get a wireless modem/router and plug it into your computer with a cable, but you can then connect other things such as the kindle wirelessly.

An Indian call centre would have sorted this out in seconds.
Report The Leopard • January 3, 2015 10:26 AM GMT
The Nigerian call centres are even better....they offer amazing added services.

search for neighbours who are connected and intimidate them into giving you their password ...

be careful they aren't rozzers. Laugh

Working fine. Happy
Mrs CMAT is shopping on Amazon, without disturbing me.
Which is good.
