Google tells me that the film wasn't exactly accurate.
At the time it was set, Von Trapp and Maria had been married
for ten years with children of their own.

Don't understand the bad fuss with Austrian Josef Fritzl hiding his kids from the outside. People liked some Austrian kiddy hiding in the Sound Of Music. The general public are so fickle!!! 
MY MAM ORGANISED A LARGE COACH PARTY FROM OUR COUNCIL ESTATE TO GO AND SEE IT AT THE GAUMONT CINEMA IN MANCHESTER WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT ,I BOUGHT THE L P ,IM SURE I WOULD HAVE BEEN PICKED UP BY THE SYSTEMS IN PLACE TODAY
