been emailing an old forumite friend over Christmas
turns out he thinks the worst thing he ever did was give his identity away on the horse racing forum
he says he would still be on there if it wasn't for some stalking type confronting him in the bar at listowel races
pulling him up over a comment he made two years previously
anyone else think its the worse thing you could do and had similar experiences ?

I personally think the anonymity makes it a far lively place

I hope one day a stalker shows up to have go at me.

After A&E have finished with him he can come back on here and report what a thoroughly easy going chap I am.

LOL cmat , as we both know the politics forum as the carckpot of all time stalking EO ! Inclined to agree with irish thatbest not to reveal details and I do believe that the anonymity gives the forums a slight edge,at least until we get the compo lawyer scum trawling them.

I'm not anonymous, quite a few on chit chat and the horse forum know me personally.

That's why the pair of prize mugs 4thjulykid and cryoftruth won't take my bet that I can prove that I'm not EO.

To get yesterdays "I-Phone Giveaway Token" on the poker site you had to post your real name on their Facebook page. I didn't post but seen a few people I play. Everywhere want's your identity to sell it.

I like Betfair for the anonymity, it's only an alter ego for me. In fairness I've posted a lot less when people started finding me. You can be Butch, Cassidy or for some the SunDanceKid.

Who was it? Was it some grammar arse who told you that you should've put a comma down instead of a fullstop?

Anonymity reduces the accountability one has for ones views or actions.
If you let someone know who you are on here it can be useful in some respects but more harmful in others.
Some want to big themselves up by saying who they are, describing achievements etc but what they don't realise is that by identifying themselves they immediately leave themselves open to psychological tactics involving any respective party to purport and/or support and/or discredit any sort of activity or belief.
That's why you are better off not identifying yourself, "Sadly there are always nutjobs around, in every walk of life." is spot on .

"Some want to big themselves up by saying who they are, describing achievements etc" ..... an old racing saying, "When boys win money they're men (showing off) and when the lose it they're boys again.
