North Korea statement about release of The Interview

According to Radio4 last week, this sort of statement is pretty standard from North Korea. Apparently Obama referred to a monkey on a fairly regular basis.
I suspect the leaders of North Korea have committed bigger crimes than some racist insults against Obsma.

Not as funny as when Hugo Chavez called Dubya a donkey imo.

To be fair it is never a good idea to trust a monkey in a tropical forest. They'll have your car keys and your watch before you can blink. I know...

Mikael, I've been informed that there are 2,000 residents at the Donkey Sanctuary who are outraged that Chavez compared them to Grorge W Bush. They were not happy and got the best lawyers to sue Venezuela for such an outrageous insult.

... and it's not just the ones in the tropical forest. A mate of mine works in Knowsley Safari park and he took me on a little behind the scenes visit. The monkeys in there have got a 42" flat screen, they've all got ipads, a freezer full of bananas and nuts and smoking 20 tabs a day the lot of them... that's where I got my Patek Philippe.

Assuming the translation to be accurate, and they often aren't, it isn't all that great an analogy because, um, monkeys can't use words.

I have looked at a few BBC reports about this, and still haven't the foggiest idea what this alleged "racist" remark was. How on earth can we assess North Korea's public response (or that matter the BBC's editorial ability) if we've only got half the story?  I'd have hoped we were all grown up enough to hear an alleged racist remark and not immediately riot at the nearest shopping centre.

North Korea has condemned US President Barack Obama over the release of the film The Interview, about a fictional plot to kill its leader Kim Jong-un.

The National Defence Commission (NDC) also accused the US of shutting down North Korea's internet - and described Mr Obama as "reckless" and "a monkey".

Another internet shut-down was observed hours later, Chinese state media said.

Sony Pictures originally pulled the film after a cyber-attack and threats - a move criticised by Mr Obama.

He joined critics who had warned that freedom of expression was under threat if the movie was shelved.

Sony later reconsidered and released The Interview on Christmas Day.

The controversial film was shown in some US cinemas and is available online, with several hundred independent cinemas coming forward and offering to screen it.

However, larger theatres decided not to show the film.

In a statement issued on Saturday, North Korea's NDC spokesman denounced the US for screening the "dishonest and reactionary movie hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK [North Korea] and agitating terrorism".

President Obama, the statement said, "is the chief culprit who forced the Sony Pictures Entertainment to indiscriminately distribute the movie", blackmailing cinemas in the US.

It added: "Obama always goes reckless in words and deeds like a monkey in a tropical forest."

The NDC also accused Washington of "groundlessly linking the unheard of hacking at the Sony Pictures Entertainment to the DPRK".

i dont recall NK being in the news so much in the previous 20 years compared to the last three or four.

They are a boil about to go pop.

It's the company that they keep that is the worry.
