Wesdaq. I can't see why my defence of people who are going about their own lives in a manner that THEY see fit can be connected in any way with 'forelock tugging'. It wasn't me who was queuing to see The Queen. It's not of very much interest to me and it's not something that I, personally, would do. However, I wouldn't condemn anybody for wanting to. I wouldn't condemn any for sharing YOUR lifestyle, either. Whatever it may be. I only have a problem with the intolerant aspect. Everything else is fine!

A load of idiots queueing up on Chistmas day dragging their kids along in the freezing cold just to see some unelected spongers driving past in a car I mean for f*cks sake get yourself a life, they could not give a flying t oss about those poor sods , it's embarrassing, I'm embarrassed for them, and the queens speech, it was so robotic and scripted for her it's painful to listen to her force her way through it, why the media gives them so much coverage in an age where they bear such little relevance I'll never know. The only reason why events like the jubille are so well attended is london being the dump that it is s full up on curious tourists, than yanks love them more than the brits, they should take up residence there, that great big f uck off palace they live in, I mean to think of all the homeless people that could make use of that, all for one and one for all eh , FFS

Hmmm. An interesting point of view. 'Dragging their kids along in the freezing cold'. Makes it sound like a punishment. Who knows...maybe it is? But at least it's got the kids out of the house and into a bit of fresh air. Quite an achievement for some these days. It's so nice that they could fit their little trip in to coincide with the Queen's trip to church. It probably made her feel quite special, too.
I enjoyed watching the carols from King's College this morning. Made me feel quite ethereal.

In which case the children may learn to stop being naughty. Some children might find it quite exciting, though. Standing there waiting to wave their little flags as the limousine silently glides by and The Queen smiles and waves in return. Sheer 'eaven to some little boys and girls. Sheer 'eaven!

Imo I do think it's a bit sad to spend your xmas morning queuing to see a few royals. Your own family should be far more important to you than someone else's.
Gonna get up with your kids, watch them open their presents, have a nice breakfast, start the Christmas dinner. No thanks, we want to sit in the freezing cold for hours just to see a few people go to church. No logic there for me.

Recall talking to a Chinese tourist in London during the Queens jubilee. She had a couple of small union flags and her excitement and love for the Queen made me feel rather ashamed at my indifference.

Tourists that have no royal family back home always seem to like ours.
However, such countries also seem not to tolerate parasites back home.
Funny that.

We gather you're not a Royalist, but it took you 8 lines of typing to say so.
And you watched her speech, even though you don't believe in the Monarchy?
What did you think she was going to speak about, football matches on Boxing Day?

it's six lines on my screen, what kind of person IS a Royalist? a very sad pathetic individual imo who needs a archaic figurehead in their life to to bring them comfort. I didn't watch her speech, I saw sections of it on the news channels, if she died tomorrow I wouldn't bat an eyelid, lived twice as long as Diana and then some but has never achieved a fraction of the love and affection the public showed her, that's because she has no personality, she exists for the sake of existing and will always do so whilst good little sheep like you keep propping her up

I've never been so needy as to want a family, Royal or otherwise to project my inadequacy upon. Particularly a ruling class from from another age/tribe, Still, if you are feeling inclined to investigate, not really a feasible option for the brain-washed, then give it a go.

Wesdag Tourists that have no royal family back home always seem to like ours. However, such countries also seem not to tolerate parasites back home.
You should get your facts right first Wesdag. The Queen hands over approx. 85% of her income from her estate earnings and funds the extended Royal Family at her own expense. As regards people getting up early to see them at Sandringham, so what? I wouldn't do it but each to their own. BTW my parents took me and my sister to London to see the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace when I was 8. Still one of the most vivid memories I have from my childhood.

Congratulations akabula for uncovering such an obvious typo.
Still, it's worth trying anything to distract you from sucking the parasitic tit which is royalty.

AKABULA was the poster who nauseatingly kept saying "better together" on every single Scottish independence thread going a couple of months go, it's pathetic hanging on to the English coat tails, do you as a Scotsman have no pride? I suppose as a Sevco supporter pride is a bit of a sore subject atm

My mum and sister went to London for the Buckingham Palace tour so they could gawp at the priceless artefacts on show. When they came back they moaned about the wealth in Kensington, saying it was obscene.
They are quite happy for my nephews to be deemed the future subjects of another wee boy, just because of the accident of birth. They don't accept that Prince George is 'better' than my nephews but see no issue with him having the most privilaged life of any child ever born, before becoming head of state, no matter if he turns out to be a right ****.
Society can never be perfect but monarchy is very damaging imo. The double standards, the sense of entitlement, some people deemed 'better' than others, learning not to question, just to obey.... none of that can be right.
I understand certain arguments for monarchy rather than a republic but surely the ostentatious manner of our monarchy should be toned down if it is to continue.
I said on another thread recently that if you get a dingy flat in a crime ridden sh1thole you are a scrounger. Get a dozen palaces and castles and you are royalty.
As a society we should be striving for better than this, better than wetting yourself at the sight of a baby already deemed your better just because who his parents are.

Voluntarily only if you ignore the society in which we live in, which promotes this sort of royal worship and trains people to ignore the sorts of logic and standards that they would apply to other situations in life.

The British really are in danger of becoming a petty and charmless bunch. Be careful, how a nation is perceived by the rest of the world can change very quickly. Certainly it shows an inability to understand the full danger and horror that exists in most of the worlds countries to be so reckless with Britains history and institutions.
The world has changed and it is the unthinking and brainwashed nature of those against the monarchy who are not up to speed with the modern world.

talking of imitations AKA........ The House of Windsor is the royal house of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. It was founded by King George V by royal proclamation on 17 July 1917, when he changed the name of the British Royal Family from the German Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (a branch of the House of Wettin) to the English Windsor, due to the anti-German sentiment in the British Empire during World War I.[1] The most prominent member of the House of Windsor is its head, Queen Elizabeth II, who is the reigning monarch of 16 Commonwealth realms.
The House of Wettin is a dynasty of German counts, dukes, prince-electors and kings that once ruled territories of present-day German states of Saxony and Thuringia for 953 years. Many ruling monarchs outside Germany were tied to its cadet branch Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
