Would you do it the same way or do along a different route?

Sounds like you're having a rubbish Christmas after a lifetime of regrets.

I cannot count the number of different potential routes I could have taken from age 16 onwards.
Some would have been better and some worse.... who could know?

So there's not much point of thinking about it.

Make the most of what the route you took has led to.

Perhaps taken a few more chances rather than choosing the safe option, be more confident in my own ability.

I certainly would never have voted Labour.

Voting Labour is the first thing I'd cross of my list of mistakes.

If I could turn back time I would have married the blonde and not the brunette, biggest mistake of my entire life by some distance.

Ages 16 to 21 -- should have paid slightly more attention to academic life and career choice -- effectively ballsed things up for the next couple of decades. It all came very easily at school, and by the time it didn't, I'd drifted too far out to sea.

should have got into property in my 20s (saw the fear not the opportunity, 15% interest rates et al). Otherwise i could have become an obnoxious private landlord

Something similar. Return me to a warm, July mediterranean evening many, many moons ago and give the young man I was then the nous and guts to alter the karma.
