I watched Hard Eight the other night. I had seen it before some years ago.  Was the young lad at the cra@ps table who wound up Sidney (Philip Baker Hall) (before he chucked 2K on a hard eight) supposed to be John's father? (he had shot John's father some years ago and was blackmailed over it by Jimmy (Samuel L. Jackson).) Gwyneth Paltrow looked mighty fine in the film.
