I Recently bought goods in 4 Different Shops and did Not receive a Till receipt, 2 of the shops had Security guards on the Exit doors,
Of course, I demanded a receipt on each occasion,
Assistants explaining that customers throw them on the floor outside,
I Explained if you put them with the shopping in their bag, this may Not happen,
and if the customer wants to go outside and wipe their @rse on the receipt, it is Not your business.
On a Serious note, is this not giving Shoplifters the perfect Excuse, "I paid, I got No receipt"
One Supermarket chain explained to me;
"Thank you for your email.
I was sorry to hear of the problems you have faced in regard to store not giving receipts.
As this is an Express store they don't give receipts unless the customer request one.,
however going forward I have spoken to L*&%£! who is the store Duty Manager who will ensure cashiers are asking customers if they would like a receipt.
I would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.
We would much rather know if something is wrong so that we can take steps to put things right as soon as possible.

I've also been aware of this situation when visiting different shops.
If you get stopped and there's something in your bag that they sell in that shop that you bought elsewhere, you'll have a hard job proving it without a receipt.

I Worked with a Very Honest Man years ago,
he did like to go for a drink after work, then do a little bit of shopping,
One day after he had been drinking and shopping, chatting up to the Shop assistants,
He left this "Ethic-al" store with his Goods and No receipt,
The Store Detective followed him out and proceeded to follow him towards his house, thinking he had Not paid for certain goods,
However, a Convicted Junkie/Shoplifter walked past my mate and recognising the Store Detective, jumped on him and beat him up.
The next evening the Store Detective with 2 policemen, went to one of the Few Village pubs my mate drank at, he was arrested on Suspicion of Shoplifting and Collusion of Assault (Because they Assumed the Junkie was his mate?)
After 3 visits to the Police Station, they could Not prove he had Stolen any goods, because the shop gave him No Till Receipt, they accepted he did Not know the Junkie attacker.

^ So having no till receipt could work in your favour if you were a thief, and work against you if you weren't

Till receipts have little or nothing to do with shop theft.
We detain suspects after they have been seen to select goods from display, usually hide them in some way about the person, in bags, in a pushchair etc. and leave without making any attempt to pay.
I can recall detaining one thief in BHS Romford in the seventies. Cocky booger thought he'd get away with it when he produced a receipt for an item he'd bought slightly earlier. Unluckiily for him the stolen item was a different size/colour from the one actually purchased which we could see from the receipt even in those days.

I knew 2 female 'tea-leafs' who, once every 4 or 5 weeks, used to fill up 2 trolleys in Asda at Beckton. One would pay for it all and get a receipt, once past the checkout, the other one would go and put it all in her car, and leave the site.
The one still there would then take the identical trolley, walk into the DVD/CD dept, buy one CD, and head for the same checkout she had just gone through and say 'I forgot this', pay for the CD, then head to her own car.
They said they were never asked for a receipt, but had it if needed.
My mate jokingly asked them to get a small telly to go behind the counter in the shop. About 6 weeks later they brought one in.

I've just been talking about this with my missus - shops seem to be making it easier and easier to shoplift - how do these scan and pack work - I know you scan your goods as you get them off the shelves but when do you pay for it all and what check methods do Tesco's have in place to prevent you from "forgetting" to scan the smoke salmon etc ?
