Fair play to him, I hope his Neighbours chipped in, his action caused the Flood level to rise elsewhere by 9mm, When they were already under 900mm of Floodwater.
A builder who tampered with sluice gates during last winter's floods on the Somerset Levels has been fined £1,000.
Taunton Magistrates' Court heard his actions caused an estimated 45,000 cubic metres of water to head towards the village of Thorney.
Goddard claimed he had wanted to divert flood water away from his property.
Prosecutors said the effect of Goddard's actions had caused the water levels in Thorney to rise.
However, they said it could not be known whether this had then directly caused damage to properties in the village.
The private prosecution was brought by the Parrett Internal Drainage Board. By opening the sluice gate, Goddard breached a local by-law and the Land Drainage Act.
Goddard was also ordered to pay £1,500 for the prosecution costs and the cost of repairing the sluice gate.

I Forgot to add, if he had Smashed the padlocks off this gate 20 meters from his property, He would have got Flooded out and perhaps some of his Neighbours.

Typical 'I'm alright Jack' attitude. He had no authority to break the lock. It was not his property. Also, he can't prove that his home, or others, WOULD have been flooded and nor would he have any certainty with regard to the damage he might cause to other properties.
He's just the sort of 'look after number one' person who would lower the Thames barrier to save his cabbage patch! We are all in this together. |

The Thames Barrier is not designed to save east London, which is where it sits, it's designed to save central London.
A repeat of the 1953 floods will mean they close the barrier. And Canning Town, North Woolwich, Silvertown, Custom House, Beckton, Cyprus and the docks, will be flooded worse than 1953. |
