I'm assuming that one or more ChitChatters can offer some constructive help on this matter, as I have no wish to attempt the old Rod Hull and Emu trick of climbing steep ladders up to the roof to fix an outdoor one myself in this crazy weather.
Given that we now live in a country where most households have about 20 TV sets on the go at any one time, and what with the analogue service having been switched off I'm guessing that many properties make use of Indoor Digital Aerials.
1) Are they any good?
2) Can someone recommend a decent one, ideally at an attractive price?
3) Are they any good at delivering the signal when you live between two mountains?
All sensible tech advice welcomed.

Buy one, try it, you'll probably get some channels but not all and/or a dodgy signal where the picture intermittently 'freezes' rendering it useless.
Last resort, a high-gain aerial will do the job.

Mr N : cheers, oh gawd, that's not good news at all, and I've never even heard of a High Gain Aerial either. Does that involve climbing up ladders and fixing things to roofs and the like.
How do all these "20 tellys in the house" types cope then?

Yes, a high grain aerial is pretty much a more powerful aerial for aeras with a poor reception.
I use one of these to get basic digital telly around the house.

One cable goes from the aerial to the box. You then use the other four outputs to connect to your various tellys. A bit like a four way mains adaptor.
I bought a decent indoor aerial with a booster.
Like MrNibbs, said it runs fine for a bit then it loses the signal and freezes.
I had to split the roof aerial feed in the end.

The aerial lead went Into a 6 way splitter / booster box
What you do is pay a man to fix one on the roof for you.
