No one should be executed at 14

Very bad, but to understand history one has to see these things using the values of the time

not that this was ever right

The US now seem to be destined to be having problems with their black population forever

or for the foreseeable future.

Cultures do not mix...although the blacks hardly had a lot of choice

The Guardian ffs

Try and find a recent news item on Rotherham Abuse on that site.

Or

the black cop that shot dead an unarmed Hispanic youth.

The land of the free?  A country founded on killing the original inhabitants and the exploitation of slaves/recent immigrants?  Were you born yesterday?  Just be happy you aren't one of the 'suspects'.  Or are you?

There's a film based on this. I know it's only acting, but as you know it happened in real life, the execution scene is absolutely heartbreaking Sad

The Europeans who arrived there saw the US as  a vast empty country.

They were pioneers.

The native American Indians were not regarded as even human beings, nor were the salves they imported from Africa

But the people who did this did not see themselves as bad

I feel a great wrong was done to the native American Indians and the slaves, but I am using todays values

was thinking recently that it's not a massive leap to believe that in the future we'll understand how the brain works to the point that we'll look back and think it was barbaric that we executed/imprisoned for life people who committed crimes due to 'faulty wiring' or other imbalances in the brain that they had no control over

my barber is keen on his US history and reckons that cos it's such a vast empty country, throughout its history and in some parts to this day people have always feared what will come over the horizon and attack them, try to take what was theirs...kind of makes sense when you consider that brief 'Wild West' period was only 150 or so yrs ago...poss helps to explain why they can seem wary of the outside World in general

Cultures do not mix

Which is absolutely correct.

You only have to observe how people from a different culture flock to the same area.
And just as importantly when this happens, is how the people who were there originally move away.
It used to be called ''white flight'' for want of a better name.

I think there's a significant no. of racists amongst us. There are plenty of snide racist comment on here.
I went on a music boat trip last summer and there was quite a no. of black people waiting to get on. A mate of mine said this shocking comment -  "I'm not racist, but I'm not getting on the boat with them" SadSad
One of the Simpsons said "Can't we all just get along?" It would seem not. Sad

Yes - just look how many Jews, Afro-Caribbean's, Ugandan Asians and Eastern Europeans have flocked to the UK to create....oh, that would be a multi-cultural society wouldn't it?

I don't agree that it's human nature. Children will happily play with kids from other cultures before they are err perhaps brainwashed.

A multicultural society in reality, is very different to the illusion that it is a variety of cultures living cheek by jowl with each other.

That is definitely not the case.

Stow-judge,
Brainwashing kids? I though any brainwashing of kids was done at schools to try and make kids overcome their natural prejudices.

A typical comment left on that youtube video as if the video itself isn't sickening enough we get comments like this in retaliation

White men have obsession with children.  Every week in the UK we hear about another white man molesting a child. Its in the WHITE mans DNA and needs to be addressed and looked into. I have daughters and would NEVER EVER trust even their white male teachers at school.  They are all dirty perverts.

It is about our self identity Stow, how we see ourselves as we grow up, this is the problem
You see Black Africans and Asian Muslims are not quite the same as White British

In fact they do not see themselves as this , the see themselves as black British or Asian British
ad neither do White British see them as us...not really
By:

The best example I can give is white couples who have adopted black children and treated them exactly as if they are white.

This is a disaster, when the child grows up they find they are not accepted by society as White British
but they no empathy with black Africans at all. They are lost.

Adoption agencies take great care with this now. A child must know its identity from an early age.

But we are trying to do this on large scale in our society, it is not quite working is it. I don't know the answer
perhaps we should have listened to Enoch.

We must accept White British, Black British and Asian British are different cultures,

and learn to deal with this.

My own opinion.

The 'exoneration' seems pretty pointless imo

Basically saying well it was maybe a bit harsh to be executing 14 year olds ,not bringing him back is it . Not clearing his name in any meaningful way either  , as they have hardly found 'the real killer '

I read about this a while back . The judicial procedure was pretty dubious no doubt , but no one seemed to dispute that he saw and spoke to the girls ,that no one saw them after that , and they were killed near to where he had been with them ,shortly after he spoke to them .  Also that he was able to lead police back to the scene and point out the murder weapon . Now some might say the police knew where the murder weapon was and forced him to point it out in order to fit him up . But however racist they were they'd surely have made a genuine attempt to find the killer of 2 children at first , before looking for a black kid to dump it on . I could see them framing someone if they were clueless after months but not on day 1 surely .

tobermory, I think a number of factors made this kid "the killer" guilty or not, 1 he was black, sub human in the eyes of the white community in those days, 2 seen talking to the girl, not long before they were murdered, 3fact 1+2 creates fact 3 they decided he was guilty it was just a matter of making it fit, so some backfitting was done taking him back to the scene etc, to make the evidence fit.

His brief still had to live in the south after the trial, would he have had a life if his client had been acquitted.

"they'd surely have made a genuine attempt to find the killer of 2 children at first" you would hope so but we are not so good at this ourselves, look at the efforts our police made to convict Colin Stagg, because he fitted their idea of the killer, Barry George, another easy hit, the Birmingham 6, who would not want the real killers found, our police that's who, the Guildford 4, the list goes on and on, even after the Balcombe Street siege when real IRA terrosists were nicked and told all in sundry they were responsible, our police did not want their fck up known.

There are countless cases where this has happened, so it's little wonder that he was convicted guilty or not back then in those circumstances.

Some good points there  , and i certainly don't rate our own detectives highly ! Still though , with Colin Stagg et al , they were getting nowhere for a long time and then zeroed in on someone who fitted the local nutter criteria .
