What's going on?

C*r**s were offering 10 to 1 but have stopped taking bets.

Leading bookmaker C**** has suspended betting on the Queen announcing her abdication in her speech on Christmas Day, following a rush of bets this afternoon.

The firm was offering odds of 10-1 that Her Majesty would announce her decision to step down during her address to the nation, but today's unusual gambling has instantly set alarm bells ringing, forcing C**** to close the market altogether.
'Throughout the year there has been major speculation about the Queen's future but today's gamble has really caught us by surprise,' said C****'s Nicola McGeady.

'As far as we are concerned there's no smoke without fire when bets like this come through all in succession, so we have decided to be safe rather than sorry and pull the plug on the market,' added McGeady.

A Palace spokesperson said they would not comment.

Even if she were to abdicate, cannot see her announcing it in a Christmas Day speech.

One point to note is that she is approximately 260 days from overtaking Queen Victoria and becoming Britain's longest-reigning monarch.

It won't happen. As has already been said nothing bit publicity for the bookies.

In the next year she will become the longest reigning monarch in the thousand year history of the British Royal family, is it likely she'd miss out on that record  in order to abdicate just a few months short of the historic landmark?

I don't think she will be bothered about any record.

"I don't think she will be bothered about any record."

You think so? It would cement her place in history, she may be royal, which could advance the idea, to you, she's above all earthly weaknesses, but she's also a human being; would it not appeal to her vanity to surpass her great grear grandmother's record?

she knows that in order to keep the Royal Family going, she needs to keep Charlie off the throne for as long as possible. I actually think she will die as Queen, knowing that the wave of national mourning will give Charlie an easy ride for a few years before the New Generation take over.....
Despite Diana nearly destroying the royal family, she probably is the person that has done the most to save them.....
