In 1977 - the BBC showed two programs in the HORIZON series. The examined the evidence of one old boffin that spent his entire life observing the sun. They also interviewed six solar experts in another program. ALL of these experts told us in 1977 that the temperature was due to rise by two degrees over the future fifty years.
we call this global warming or climate change today. We also blame ourselves for the current state of the planet?
total brainwashing. Cut back your usage of any resource because you are causing the end of the world.
The sun is causing the temperature rises. it is in an upward rise in output. it goes up slighty every 11 years. then plateaus for 11 then rises again. that is why there was no rise in global warming for the last eleven years - the next eleven will be heatwave years. then the following returns to a static cycle. it's revving up. in a spiral. cut back all you want - will not make a difference. the sun is the boss of you. you are not in control. accept it.

AGREED.... even if we done EVERYTHING that was needed plus tap dance whilst balancing spinning plates, it would only make a 2% difference to our predicament.

Science moved on since the days of 3 tv channels

Besides, whether global warming does for us or not, the escalating drain on resources caused by spiralling population growth will ensure the planet is impotent before very long (happily prob not before we've popped us clogs  Cool)

recently (last ten years )the sun has been relatively inactive with a maunder minimum argument introduced  but even then the co2 evidence would appear pretty strong.
Even though the sun has been at its most inactive last year was allegedly one of the hottest (warmest) for a wee while .
Sea temps also suggest a recent warming and world  weather patterns have changed ,of course weather and climate and temps have forever been changing but the recent topsy turvy   changes have happened quickly with rain patterns now unpredictable .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide_in_Earth%27s_atmosphere

There been much evidence  presented that co2 has markedly  increased in the last  century or and appears this is pretty much accepted to be the root  cause ,  would also appear this coincided with the industrial revolution .The sun is still to be fully understood and exactly what effect it does have on the short term  weather  ,if it is at a maunder min or even just at a lull or low it does not explain last years reasonably good weather imo .
Weather patterns have changed and not sure they are being understood fully never mind what the causes are but will have a pound Co2 is causing heating and this is the reason ,exactly why the co2 has increased is the debate but its all a cluster**** tbh .
Although ice is melting at one pole it is increasing at the other .The biggest effect on "ever changing climate and  weather" has been the internet imo . Laugh

Not really sure what a brainwashed sheep is? Have they been told they are an ostrich. But no, although I do look at the internet, I prefer accredited news and science sites to ones where the font is large blue and often flashing, there is advert for life-crystals in the corner, and a link to something which you suspect is going to anti-semetic but really don't to risk seeing.

More importantly though, man's impact on the environment was the subject of my university degree. You can read it if you like, there's a copy in the library. Climate change was a big deal amongst geography academics back then, not least because even though it had already been widely observed and the consequences potentially catastrophic, politicians were reluctant to do anything about it, because telling people something they don't want to hear is rarely a vote winner.

20 years on and we've made some progress. We can't relax though, because there are always going to be morons willing to believe what they want to believe, as opposed to what these 'so-called experts' or, as a sane person would call them, experts, tell them.
Report Dr Crippen December 17, 2014 5:54 PM GMT
Are these experts independent or do their opinions simply reflect the opinions of their bosses or the ones who are financing them?
Report Clungehungry December 17, 2014 6:05 PM GMT
It would vary. Plenty of research funded by vested interests, including the incredibly powerful lobbies for say the automotive industries, who would want to pretend man-made climate change is not happening. And yet even they have had to accept it.
Report Dr Crippen December 17, 2014 6:08 PM GMT
What research have the motor companies commissioned?

I thought that all the opposing voices to the idea of man-made climate change had been stifled.
Report Clungehungry December 17, 2014 6:16 PM GMT

Report Clungehungry December 17, 2014 6:23 PM GMT

Report Dr Crippen December 17, 2014 6:27 PM GMT
What is the proof that the minor change to world temperatures over the last century is mad made?
Surely if the evidence was there it would be published for all to see and put an end to the scepticism over it?
Report Ivor December 17, 2014 6:29 PM GMT
I do enjoy reading works by 'experts'..
Economic 'experts', 'terrorism' experts - the world is full of them. unfortunately they don't all arrive at the same conclusion after reviewing the same 'evidence'.
There IS a god ; there is NO god..
both from all the same 'evidence'.
Report Dr Crippen December 17, 2014 6:33 PM GMT
Why would the Chinese or the Americans want to suppress something that is claimed will be disastrous to the world?

Surely they're simply not convinced because of the lack of tangible evidence to back up the claims.
Report Clungehungry December 17, 2014 6:41 PM GMT
Because it won't be disastrous YET, and in the mean time uncapped industrial growth regardless of its impact on the environment helps businessmen line their pockets and politicians stay in power.

Surely they're simply not convinced because of the lack of tangible evidence to back up the claims.'

Where to start with that?! Yes, politicians, Shell, General Motors, the tobacco industry, surely they are just being reasonably sceptical about the claims of these scientists who probably just want loads of new test tubes.

Thankfully, we finally won.
