Genuine question someone asked of me last week.

How...is that possible? I guess there are so many different forms of entertainment now a lot of people don't...read or watch anything other than Great British Bake Off.

Spark, my niece aged 17 is quite a bright girl and will do well in life, she wants to be a vet. She had absolutely no idea who Winston Churchill was last week.Sad

The other day at lunch we were discussing disputes in the workplace and I brought up the infamous rivalry shared by Gunther von Kluge and Heinz Guderian. They look at me like I was a madman.

That`s worse than not knowing who Hitler was imo, particularly if they were young.

I know people who are well up on historical facts and trivia but are as thick as two planks.

A few years ago I worked with a woman who must have been born about 1970 - she had never heard of Harold Wilson.

That's ok. Probably not started driving yet at that age so wouldn't know who has the cheapest insurance.

It's a sorry situation when the forum has got to the stage when two teenage girls are referenced on a thread, and nobody has offered to spaff on anything.

Yes I saw that mate, everyone is drained and it was a complete nightmare dealing with the NHS. The left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing most of the time. I had to keep my cool many times when others would have lost the plot but I'm very level headed and all is good now thankfully.

There's nothing wrong with saying gadzooks if you are wearing pantaloons.

I don't own any pantaloons Eeternaloptimist, I'd rather stop saying it than buy those strides. Payne Stewart could get away with it but I'd look fairly ridiculous in Brixton market wearing them.Plain

Ah yes but, remains old English stayed with the US a lot longer than in England. As, it is claimed, did the accent from Shakespeare's time.
By:
Eeternaloptimist
When: 09 Dec 14 23:31
I think it's origins are quite a bit older than Shakey. It's derived from gad often used to refer in a polite way to the big fella and there are instances of that being used from the 1400's.
