I'd select any team against the school for Tropical Medicine, even an all girly team, or worse, a team made up of CCDA members. 
The bastards went into a 60 point lead.
They got collared with 5 minutes to go, thanks to an answer by a 'ginger' on the other side, and were passed.
Then the fackers came again and tied it at 135-135
This led to in-running chaos, but class prevailed, and they faltered as the gong approached.
I had promised Mrs CMAT that if I couldn't beat my score of last week (a bad 5) I'd streak through Kings Lynn Tesco's with a rose wedged up my arse crack
The good people of KL were saved that spectacle, as I sauntered to a score of 9 correct answers.

Correct answers only count when I answer faster than the team members.
My PB was back in the days of Bamber Gascoigne, with photos of 4 jockeys (all correct) and 3 correct answers on heavyweight boxing (rare for UC) plus an assortment of other correct answers got me a total score of 22.
I recall my first correct answer that night, it was to translate the following:
Lasciate ogne speranza voi ch'intrate - (which I just googled)
It was 100% pure guesswork as you can imagine. I never had Latin classes at school.
(Abandon hope all ye who enter here)
That score will never be repeated, brain takes a second too long to think of the answers these days, and most times, a team member answers before me.
Off for a smoke in the garden, to contemplate my bid to go up against Flabbott for the post of Mayor of London.

I spent most of the episode trying to work out who LSHTM LeGrand (captain) reminded me of (never did work it out).
LSHTM let themselves down on the supplementaries: too often they failed to convert their winning starters, whereas Bristol answered fewer starters but normally got 20 or 25 points out of them. |

On one of the specials against academics, one old professor made the same point -- they knew the answers but could not dredge them up quickly enough. Tbh sometimes with the longer questions, by the time Jeremy Paxman gets to the end, I've forgotten how it started, so I'm left thinking (say) I know that's A Tale of Two Cities but does he want the title, the author, or the year the film was released? |

Unfortunately she has developed that exaggerated sing-song intonation not uncommon in female academics, presumably because it helps keep the attention of bored students in crowded lecture theatres. According to the Oxford University website, she is now: Associate Professor in Classical Languages and Literature; and Fellow and Tutor in Classics at Trinity College. |

In my many years of watching UC, I've noticed that I'm slower off the mark for the starters but get more of the bonuses. There's probably a trade off at which the two are maximised, but I fear that I've passed my zenith already.

Words ending in the same last 3 letters (more fitting for 'Pointless' surely?) : Factoid, Void, Sang-Froid completed a rare full 15 point bonus for me. I normally only get that on the Sports, Music or Picture questions. Answered lots of starters and individual bonus questions though, so the prog must be getting a lot easier.

Interestingly, the first answer this week was the name of one of chit chats more regular contributors.
I rarely get less than double figures and slightly more frequently more than 20, so a PB of 22, imo is not to be sniffed at. |

CMAT - I would love a 6!
I recall competing with a pal of mine some years ago whenever it was on. We were both hopeless. When it came to the 3 bonus questions and the subject was composers/artists/poets etc I had a plan.. I said the same name for each question in the hope that one of them might be right. 'Mozart, Mozart, Mozart'. 'Byron, Byron, Byron'. It sometimes worked! |
