Well that was one big payday for the legal termites, and for what?
How much effort was put in over here to determine sanity to turn him over while the prosecution in another country had so limited evidence.
No wonder Teresa may likes to keep bringing up the case of McKinnon, can't think of too many others where she didn't just stand aside.

Never thought he was guilty.  This was befuddle the Mail though.  They seemed to think tales of bisexuality were a clear sign of guilt.

Watch him make a quick recovery now from the mental health problems which stalled the case for so long !

Should have been a full trial, and should have been cross examined, feel sorry for her family, this was not justice.

I think if I had a wife murdered and extradition proceedings while I knew I was innocent I too may not feel too great either.
Ppl not happy unless they have a pound of flesh, irrespective of whether guilty or innocent.

What were all those meetings about on CCTV with the man who admitted killing her? And what about the assassin dying?

A full trial surely should have been in everybody's interest.

Agreed that the whole thing was perverse, but only because they determined that there was not enough valid evidence for trial once extradition had occurred.
Either hold full trial once extradited or don't extradite.
All too often people just get handed over like they are criminals even before establishing criteria of case.

As with the Pistorius trial, what looked like, and probably should have been, a slam dunk, was torn apart by the prosection's reliance on witnesses who were easily found to be lying. It seems incredible that in four years they didn't check out their stories. You almost wonder if the witnesses had been bribed to make stuff up so the case got thrown out.

The prosecution had plenty of time to get this case right and they completely screwed up. 

Hope he has a safe taxi ride to the airport !!!!!!!

Dewani freed. Due process followed. But if you ever feel the need to murder a woman and get away with it, I'd say South Africa's for you.

The witnesses were so unreliable the case was basically laughed out of court, poor media left looking like muppets and scorned again for convicting someone before trial, married someone then had her killed straight away, that makes sense.

Seems the best hope they had to make a case was for him to implicate himself during cross examination. 

They only had 4 years to prepare for this,  incompetent, complete shambles.

can't say i'm surprised. always looked a preposterous case to me. for a supposedly intelligent man getting 3 complete strangers to arrange your wife's murder in a foreign country paying them a pittance looked far fetched. such a scheme would always be likely to end in disaster

throw in the fact that south african prisons are not exactly like the holiday camps you get over here. one of the last places you'd wanna risk a lengthy spell of imprisonment

What was his motive supposed to be? The Hate Mail has it in for him as he's not "normal" in their book, but what was his motive supposed to be?

Just saying "No I don't want to get married" is a lot easier than going to SA and getting some stranger to shoot your new wife. And the verbal evidence against him was from people who got time off their sentences for coming up with it and so were motivated to lie, that was apparently wildly contradictory?

I believe the motive they were suggesting was getting out of his marriage.

Even with family pressure, saying no would seem to be a far more rational move, but murder is rarely a rational crime. Having your wife killed is not normal or common, but then neither is it typical for an innocent man to meet up with one of the men responsible, the following day.

Who would ask a guy he had only just met to arrange a murder?

This appears inconceivable to me, but one final question? Has anybody on here ever texted their taxi driver whilst in the back of a taxi? I would wager not.

Correct, and something we never got to hear about. Just another example of a strange justice system.
