What complete ass holes they were to use a license plate with the number H982 FKL and then claim it was a coincidence!!!...ridiculous.
People died in that war, yet Clarkson got more criticism for maybe or maybe not saying 'the n word' after which he begged for forgiveness.
I think they would have absolutely deserved to have the sh it kicked out of them.

Argentine people in general are very friendly, especially outside of Buenos Aires.They have nothing against the average English person, to provoke them like that was so out of order yet the BBC are still standing by Top Gear.
I'm not at all a PC type person, but that thing with the license plate...  They were guests in Argentina, to show that level of disrespect is shameful.They are lucky that it happened in Mendoza (one of the safest cities in Argentina) If they tried it in Buenos Aires or Rosario, it could have ended much worse for them. |

Imagine how the BBC would have reacted had they shown even a tenth of that level of disrespect in India,Pakistan,Bangladesh etc.

I'm Irish.I guess it would similar to me going around England or parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland with a license plate 'IRA-1'
Trust me i have been to Argentina many times.There is no way they would have been attacked without that level of provocation. People from Mendoza are great, as are the vast majority of Argentines. Anyway, that's my rant over with :) |

So the source for this story is entirely from argentinian officials and diplomats, the sort who ban UK cruise ships from entering their ports, and you all just unquestioningly take it as fact and go off one?

This week there were photos printed of an argentinian woman attacked in front of her daughter for wearing a football shirt and anyone who follows their football knows their games are fairly regularly stopped for riots and even have fans killed outside. |

Oh I agree, Clarkson is often a w*nker, though he can be amusing sometimes.
But I like the truth, not sure we're getting it here. The BBC are flat denying they tried to set light to the cars. The argies have a cheek, they even try to politicise sport, their footballers at a match had their photo taken holding unfurled banner saying the falklands are theirs earlier this year (and were fined by FIFA for it). That's a deliberate action by their national sporting team, not some ars*holes filming a childish comedy car show that's famous for wind ups... |

I don't think that's in question - the argentinian police are saying they wanted to, not that they actually attempted it - which is mere speculation anyway; the point remains, though, that it was a tasteless stunt |

Top gear makes a LOT of money for the BBC and like it or not Clarkson is part of that, £12mil is I'm guessing a fraction of it.
I doubt it would be such a big seller worldwide if Noel Edmonds was still hosting it. |

I went to Argentina this year as a side trip from the World Cup. The people in Buenos Aires were brilliant, so different from what I had expected. Had no trouble with them in Brazil either, loads of English and Argies mixed together with no issues.
There was some sort of military base near Puerto Iguazu airport that had a big sign outside claiming they own the Malvinas, that's the only thing I came across whilst there. I'm sure things would soon escalate if you were stupid enough to provoke them, a particularly bad idea in their own back yard. Top Gear idiots got what they deserved, will no doubt do wonders for the ratings though... |

the BBC sells it's programmes all over the world, after Clarkson's last incident I read somewhere that Top Gear was it's biggest earner hence sacking him would really be a last resort.

The Clarkson contract is over 3 years not per year. Top gear is a bit mad, did you see the chinese have licensed a chinese version of it, same format, 3 guys, younger, about 1/2 the collective weight

Get a grip. Their national team unveils a banner and we get a few disgruntled references on Chit Chat. Maybe a bit of perspective is in order. btw I am sure Clarkson is having a crisis of conscience all the way to the bank with the publicity generated, and good on him. |

Does anyone know how they can possibly justify claiming ownership of the falklands? As, I think, Tobermory said..it is like us invading the faroe islands. We were totally justified in defending them. That said clarkson is a knob and yes, he is laughing all the way to the bank.

it makes me wonder if the average Argentinian is bothered about the Falklands, and their government just chucks it in for a bit of hysteria now and then to deflect from their poor economy. I also wonder if it is the same here, personally I couldn't give a stuff who owns the islands even if there is oil there.

100% right davy, clarksons stunt backfired, they all denied any knowledge of the number plate similarities ( which my 1 yr old nephew
could interpret ), and the whole thing gets swept under the carpet. the mans a complete twxt and i for one would have loved to have seen him suffer in an argentinian slammer for a few years. |

Basically this crap kicks off whenever Argentinian governments are in trouble and want a diversion and can't get Conway De La Twitty. It's quaded as soon as they sniffed oil. It's hardly 5 miles off the coast, it's off in the ocean. It's part of the UK as long as the islanders want to be, end of, the Argentinian claims are ridiculous. The ***ing hypocrites invaded and took over free patagonia only about 100 years ago. If Denmark demanded Shetland back tommorow and the islanders didn't want it, I doubt we'd hand it over |
