Good evening Tommy. It's been quite a while since I've been in touch, mainly due to a family matter, but I can hold my radio silence no longer.

This evening I've been watching the 'Newsnight' programme, which sadly these days has become a national embarrassment and a shadow of its past credibility as a news source.

Anyway, aside from that, tonight's programme has involved a special report from your very own manor, S-o-T. The viewers were treated to a Hogarthian portrait of rundown potteries, crumbling infrastructure, and a city where absolute no-one earns any wages, hence the Citizens Advice Bureaux are full of people in debt. I personally think I saw children without any shoes on, and if the subtitles I read were correct, there have even been sightings of pale shadows of men scrabbling down the back of Mr Patel's Minimart freezers for Funny Feet and/or Peppa Pig ice lollies.

I pray to Allah that it's not you, but I have to say my faith has been shaken by these unseemly scenes.

You might be able to watch this horrorshow online now at the BBC2 IPlayer website, in-running as it were, using the 'restart programme' option, or simply wait for it for the entire programme to go online.

There is also a ridiculously poor summary of the appalling late Jeremy Thorpe's "career" in politics.

Kind regards etc

I blinking well knew it.

That badly bent-out-of-shape Top Hat and that Jack-the-Ripper style black overcoat full of spanners and other tools was a dead giveaway I'm sorry to say.

I didn't see the report, Alun, but I can report that Stokeites are indeed so skint that scrambling down the back of Mr Patel's Minimart freezers is now a run by lottery ticket at a penny a throw in the Potteries.

Ye Gods, and the way they go on about Saving Ethiopia from Midge Geldof eh?

The sooner that ALL UK Foreign Aid is diverted to the Potteries the better, with the purse-strings preferably controlled by local dignitaries and El Jefes such as The Count.

Never mind - when I win the euromillions jackpot tomorrow, I'll shower riches on Stoke.  All will be well

Where is Stoke, btw?

And where does Jeremy Thorpe come into this? Other than the amusing reminder that 'flamboyant' once meant gay, a long, long time ago.

Thorpe doesn't come into the Stoke story actually. If he had, he'd have been fed to the pigs years ago and Rinka might even now be resting by the fireside.

The strawberry ice cream Christmas Tree lollies are back in stock in Iceland, I'm happy to report. Haven't had any yet - but I will be doing so.

Well done TT, keep those big freezers in your cellar fully stocked for the Yuletide period. The overpowering scent of Strawberries chez vous must be utterly divine.
