I don't agree with that sort of behaviour.

Takes me back down the paisley-lined corridors of time when such characters were described as "flamboyant".  Well, not me matey.  You can stick your thingee up ...

There's been a lot of predictable psychobabble in the media this last 24 hours or so about about "poor Jeremy, no-one would bat an eyelid these days about alleged gay relationships". THAT was NEVER the primary issue, and there was nothing like the amount of prurience about it at the time either in the media. The REAL issue was that here was a "senior" British politician was charged with "conspiracy to commit murder", a charge which Thorpe gave precisely zero evidence to deny in court, nor were any witnesses called upon to do so in his defence.  Luckily for him, the ref was very much on his side for reasons we can only begin to imagine.

Don't be surprised if, now that the deceased can no longer sue for libel, we'll be learning a lot more about one John Jeremy Thorpe.

But do we care any longer?

Our lives are a desperate downhill bicycle race (with no brakes) until we reach blessed oblivion.

Beyond a certain age you're a winner.  Having said that, Jeremy pretty much got what he deserved.  And as for those Lib-Dems ...  Bite the pillow ..

@alun2005 re cover-up of attempted murder charge -- well, perhaps cover-up is the wrong word since he was charged and tried and it was in all the papers.

One complicating factor is that the charges against Thorpe were thought by some to be part of the plot by rogue MI5 elements to smear Harold Wilson. These were funny times, with some even talking of a military coup.
