Can anyone recommend a free photo editing software, all I want to do is put a few of my friends heads on other photo's and pictures.Do i need photo editing software or will the standard stuff that comes with the pc be up to that task.

Yep, I'd agree. Trial Photoshop or the Corel Draw suite (my personal favourite).

ty gents I have downloaded the 30 day trial, taken me a couple of hours to grasp the controls but getting there
You can use paint which is already on any windows pc.
Open paint
ALT PrtScn (Together) (copies the highlighted window to the clipboard)
CNTRL V (Together) (pastes the image into paint)
The selection button (rectangle with a dotted line) allows you to highlight the part of the image you desire
CNTRL C (Together) (copies the highlighted rectangle or shape to the clipboard)
CNTRL V (Together) (pastes the image e.g. into another paint window with your other image open)
Move it into place
save your new image
