Reminds me of when I was in the Old Queens Head in Bingley many years ago, there was a sign above the bar which read
TPOYCIAPFTS Puzzled, I eventually asked what the letters stood for, and as a result had to pull out some change and hand it over. |

Reminds me of when I was in the Old Queens Head in Bingley many years ago, there was a sign above the bar which read TPOYCIAPFTS There was a longer one in The Sultan in Plaistow. IITYWIMYHTBMAD 'If I Tell You What It Means You Have To Buy Me A Drink' is what you actually said to somebody if they asked, and some thickos said ' Okay'. Free beer ![]() |

|
|
By:
It certainly was.
And home to my darts team for 5 years. All gone now. ![]() |

TPOYCIAPFTS meant The price of your curiosity is a penny for the spastics. I did say it was a long time ago. |
|
By:
Not the great guitarist Joe Brown?
|
|
By:
Yes Kenny
Joe was born in Lincolnshire, but his parents moved there when he was young. |
|
By:
certainly is
I use to live near Joe, when his parents ran the Sultan pub in Grange Rd Plaistow, East London, he's always been a down to earth bloke, if you met him in person you would find it very hard not to like him, I don't think he ever really got the recognition he should have, a few week's back I actually walked right past the site where the Sultan use to stand and I said to the person I was with, "there use to be a pub there called the Sultan, Joe Brown's parent's use to run it in the 60s", he said, Joe Brown, who's he ? My heart SANK, and I suddenly felt VERY old. |

I've seen Joe about 6 times in the last 10 years, all at Halifax Civic Theatre. He puts on a fantastic show and is a good comedian too.
|

I'm not sure but I think the guv'nor of the pub when I was in there, Terry Cleary, was related to Joe. Used to be a bloke called Bill Brown, who played darts in another pub that has closed down, he used to pop in now and again for a chinwag with Terry.
Terry and his wife Sue split up, and he moved down near to the docks somewhere when they left the pub. |

Kenny I've had a UKIP manifesto posted today one bit I thought you would like is that they promise there will be no more live animal exports for slaughter. They are also going to amend the smoking ban to give pubs and clubs the choice to have a smoking room.

That would be great B-B, but a mate told me something about the ivory trade which was not great. Will have to ask him again.

By:
I use to drink in a pub which had YCWCYAPITCJ up above the bar, which stood for Your Curiosity Will Cost You A Pound In The Charity Jar.
I thought it was quite unique but he obviously stole the idea. |
