I could ask the lad who is playing them 24/7 but he is deaf, dumb and blind so he probably can't help.

stow, a lot of midways pinball machines had ramps as you describe, not exclusively but that's where i'd start looking also williams were another to like their ramps, a few from these two were machines like creature of the black lagoon, whirlwind, radical, elvira etc
can't help much more than that without some idea of graphics or colouring |

when i was a teenager, there was an industrial unit close to where i was bought up that had a pinball refurb business on it, i had a summer job soldering and helping refurb old machines, mostly ballys but sometimes gottliebs, as a bomus i was allowed to play them in my lunch break, i was maybe 14 or 15

You're almost certainly remembering Bally's Twilight Zone, possibly the best machine I've ever played for pure pinball skill and multiball excitement.
Here it is in action, with the ball coming down the ramp and hitting the three mushroom bumpers on the left http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5DY_Mr2n3U Not my favourite game though, because there's much more to these machines than playability. Pinball Champ '83 was an Italian game by Zaccaria. It looks a bit basic now, but it was sensational when it appeared in 1982 and dominated my life for months, if not years. One of the very first machines to talk, and how those Italians made use of that! A wonderful backdrop featured a cool dude surrounded by bikini'd chicks, whose head lit up when he spoke. An American accent would coolly invite anyone to "Challenge the Champ!" on the rare occasions nobody played the machine for a few minutes. If you hit it too hard, then, no sweat, "Play me gently ... to beat me!" was his advice. But give it a real smack and get a tilt and one of the girls would gently scold you: "That's naughty!" And if you beat the highest score? "Hey! You're good ... But I'm STILL the Champ!" Oh to be 21 again ... |
