Anybody else been FORCED to swap Windows 8.0 to the 8.1 version?

Was looking at the cards on Betfair when this sign came up across my screen saying I was being put onto 8.1 without any options. Anyone else had this? It took an hour and being techy clueless is there anything I should be aware of? Any advice welcome. tia.
