Good afternoon Sir.
A few years ago, you made various Sports Books recommendations to the Forum which I decided to act upon.
You may perhaps recall that I subsequently obtained a copy of 'FAST COMPANY" by Jon Bradshaw for the princely sum of £0.01 + postage on Amazon, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Do you remember you made a second recommended choice to me? This neat and slim book has arrived here today, sourced once again from the Amazon 'secondhand' option for £1-90 + postage. It is as clean as a whistle and I'm looking forward to reading it as a small Christmas gift to myself. It looks fab btw.
Do you recall which book I'm discussing?

I haven't read the McGoorty biography for donkey's years. I think I'll follow your lead, Alun, and dig out my copy to read over Christmas.
I'll go through my small library later and post up a couple of titles that may be of interest. In the meantime, I know a new biography of Titanic Thompson was published quite recently by Kevin Cook. Titanic Thompson: The Man Who Bet On Everything.

And how about the master himself, Damon Runyon? Collections of his short stories can be a tad pricey as they're invariably out of print, but a bargain is sure to pop up occasionally.

I have the Kevin Cook book about TT already thanks, and suffice to say it's magnificently entertaining.

I don't know if you would be interested in the Damon Runyon collection of short stories on audiobook, Alun, but as they have now fallen into the public domain all the stories are freely available for download from the link below.

I have done this myself for an elderly relative who is blind, so can confirm that the site is safe and free of nasty bugs or viruses. The books are read by volunteers so the quality of narration can be a touch inconsistent at times, but many are very good and all things considered it is an excellent service. At the very least it would give you an insight on whether or not you wished to shell out for the printed copies.
