I have an old exercise bike York C740 to sell and i was thinking of doing this through Ebay.
The bike is nearly ten years old but is as good as new(rarely used) and cost £350 new but i reckon it is worth at least £50 now.
Anyway as the bike is very heavy i presume it will be either up to the buyer to collect or arrange their own courier.
My question is though what happens if they pay by paypal, collect the bike but then cancel their paypal payment and say they never collected the bike. Where would my proof be that they did collect the bike? And i think Ebay would be on their side with their "money back guarantee"

Where are you based Steve? My missus wants an exercise bike, but I know after a week it will be put in the garage and never used again. Wasting £50 instead £300 sounds much more appealing to me.

If you have any concern about Paypal just go cash on collection. Anyway for this amount its hardly worth anyone trying to stiff you.

I agree with Thin and Crispy. I can't believe that the poster is concerned about being 'scammed' for a sale like that!
 Especially as he seems quite prepared to throw it away! Why not just donate it to a Charity Shop or something similar? |

Can't you just use the old fashioned ad in the local free paper? No paypal nonsense that way.

If someone tries to pay through Paypal, just refund them stating that they've tried to do something not offered in the listing. Don't let them arrange their own courier either, because if they arrange the courier, they can claim damage to the item and try for a dispute/refund that way. C.O.D. allows them to inspect and only buy if they're happy. Also, she says, you could try Gumtree. |

btw, put in the listing; "collection in person, no couriers".
People will scam for even 99p items, don't think that because it's only £50, you can't get grief. |

gumtree for item like this but plenty of pictures and detail in the ad though to prevent times wasters.

I had my first attempt at being done on ebay the other day, payed through the nose for fast delivery, they sent normal (came like 5 days later) and I really had to hassle to get the difference refunded.

Why not just donate it to a Charity Shop or something similar? Good idea mate. I'm desperate for the cash and i think i will do what you suggested. There are too many foreign types in this country now to be selling things from your house imo. Just imagine some of the types who could turn up at your front door. Feck that it just ain't worth the hassle.  |

Not sure I agree with point 2, STD. If they don't want to pay for it, nobody can make them, not even the all-powerful ebay.
