Yep it's the nest novel i've had the pleasure to read. It should really be compulsary.

The film version although very short for the depth of the many character is also very good.

Seems the filmmaker has died yesterday.

Any other Nately whoares kid sister, Milo Minderbinder, Major Major Major etc fanatics about?

Colonel Cathcart, Dunbar, Major - de coverley. Captain Black, Sergeant TOwser,Major Major Major, Captain Flume, Clevinger, GenralDreedle, off the top of me head I'd say its a great novel.

Some great characters, Good old Aarfy (who wasn't), Hungry Joe, kid Sampson who met a horrific death and lieutenant Scheisskopf who had a great name, the Soldier in White... Read it when it first came out and still remember it with affection.

Probably my favourite book - really clever and could be the funniest book ever as well - Yossarian is a great character

Read it as an impressionable 19 year old and thought it was great.  Sadly I cant remember much of it.  Still cant remember exactly how that bloke sold stuff for less than he bought it but made a profit.

Wonderful book - I must have read it a dozen times.

The film was rubbish -but then no film could do it justice.

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he were sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.
