Their shares are on the ropes at the moment. The company is finding the competition a bit too hot for their liking.
They can't simply run to the government for help now.

I bet Vince Cable is relieved though.
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 21, 2014 12:19 PM GMT
they do have to deliver to every address with mail every day (except sunday)
its the USO agreement.

now the comptetion dont and have their final mile deliveries price capped.

no doubt some mps may have shares in the competition.....

the flip side was royal mail didnt have to pay vat...not sure where that lies now though.

the sensible thing to do would be to be allowed to cherry pick like the compettion do....or charge extortionate rates to deliver to less populated areas.

can see their argument although having worked for these c***s i hope the gestapo get their cummupance.
i battered these in court a truly fkin humiliation to the lying c***s ...rant over Laugh
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 12:27 PM GMT
They have already started to question whether they have to deliver to all addresses I heard the other day.
Funny really when you think about it, just because they tell you stuff when trying to get things through doesnt mean they continue to be the case.
Didnt they say railtrack was to remain in British only hands or something like that?

The private sector dont make habits of employing people for the good of the community or the sector, they do it to cease being a product in the public good/service but instead to become an opportunity to profit from for those who own capital and demand a return on that capital.

Dante didnt warn about hell and usury for nothing.
Report Dr Crippen November 21, 2014 12:34 PM GMT
The private sector don't waste money and overpay their employees either, or pay private pensions to their ex employees funded by lower paid taxpayers who don't receive gold plated pensions themselves.
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 12:36 PM GMT
no they just raid the pot in a more opaque fashion through shareholder value maximization
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 12:43 PM GMT
rather disingenuous to suggest that people in the private sector arnt overpaid.
The laissez faire capitalistic model isnt adhered to, its a gamble of overpaying for 'talent' with creative accountancy bailing out any bad bets
Report Dr Crippen November 21, 2014 12:45 PM GMT
You're confusing paying pensions out of taxpayers money with a different pot.

Taxpayers do not foot the bill for the shareholders profits. Their company's customers do that. And if they don't like it they go elsewhere.

Which is precisely what is happening to The Royal Mail at the moment.
Report Dr Crippen November 21, 2014 12:47 PM GMT
rather disingenuous to suggest that people in the private sector arnt overpaid.

It's a well known fact that they're underpaid in comparison to similar jobs in the public sector.
Report Dr Crippen November 21, 2014 12:50 PM GMT
No golden pensions for ordinary workers in the private sector either.
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 12:55 PM GMT
Thing golden pensions are a thing of the past whether public or private sector. The fact capitalism defaults in cycles means money needs to be found continually to fill the gaps in the companies books after deregulated take out merchants took out more than they merited while prying eyes were elsewhere.
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 1:03 PM GMT
Its a lie spread by the 'privateers' that privatisation increased growth.
Growth since the 70s has decreased in real terms even though everything was sold off to chums with cash.
Sure they invest initially but then either crush their workforce thats run into the ground or price is increased by enough to make a profit on all margins that the investment covered originally.
(prices dont drop once investment is redeemed either)
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 1:04 PM GMT
*those with cash and those who were encouraged to increase debt
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 1:29 PM GMT
just to sum up.
The two ideologies have their own demerits, but are the two sides of the same coin.
My issue is this.
One overpays on retirement the people who actually put the effort in, while the other rewards simply the ownership of capital who dont.
Report Dr Crippen November 21, 2014 2:11 PM GMT
Thing golden pensions are a thing of the past whether public or private sector

You can't buy the type of pensions that are freely distributed to workers in the public sector.

And a private sector worker would have to sacrifice an awful lot of their income in savings to even approach the amounts that would be needed to save and buy a comparable pension which is taken for granted in public service.

Public sector workers have always tried to pull the wool over the eyes of people regarding their pensions.

They still receive golden pensions, and only slightly less golden now than before.
Report dustybin November 21, 2014 2:20 PM GMT
I have no problem with workers being rewarded for work as apposed to investors using contrived vehicles to make capital on capital.
The error as far as I can see is that the system should be for competition of good workers for a good wage and rewards where the workers have incentive to apply themselves and be thankful for those rewards, as apposed to a system that races to the bottom at every chance it gets.
This comes back to the issue of humanity wanting things for nothing.
People expect a return even though they imput nothing, or they take the pi ss once given a good wage.

its a major flaw in this country.
privatisation is short termism to cook the books.

which ties in nicely with the real point of a polititian.....to be made to look good in terms of a 4 or 5 year period.

long term though selling the "country's gold" was treacherous

The voices to get rid of the universal delivery are getting louder it seems.
Have the greedy opportunists really got suck a lack of honour or morals?
How can they even think of trying to u-turn on such an important bedrock of the royal mail, and so early too?
If they didnt like the prospect of delivering to all then they should have tried to make a profit off the back of the company.....or was this their intention all along???
Report dustybin November 26, 2014 12:40 PM GMT
shouldnt have tried
Report macarony November 26, 2014 12:58 PM GMT
Crippin the tax payer didn't give the Royal Mail pension anything in reality, the government only gave back the money it should not have taken in the first place.
The Royal Mail had to pay the postal levy in addition to any tax.
The problem was the government of the day took to much money so Royal Mail stopped paying into their employees pension for over 17 years.
in other words you owe us money not the other way round
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 26, 2014 1:20 PM GMT
dustybin.

the unfairness of the uso had been around since the old tnt had decided to set up their delivery network.

nothing to do with privatisation even if the cwu did use it as a stick against privatisation.....

what the cwu and royal mail will agree on is its unfair to allow companies to use the royal mail network but not pay a fair price.

and when tnt do deliver themselves they dont have to stick to the uso!!!!!

so its not fair that one company does and onother doesnt.
its also not like there is any time frame for them to comply with it.
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 26, 2014 1:23 PM GMT
also

if anyone who makes the rules for postcomm (or the relevant body lol) and they have shares in tnt ......... they should be jailed
Report dustybin November 26, 2014 1:24 PM GMT
the point being that royal mail always have delivered to all, a point they knew and was promised wouldnt change
those all seem hollow words now they are attempting to get the regulator to change it now they have their mits on it and the public were told would be safe
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 26, 2014 1:27 PM GMT
so one company has to stick to the rules and one doesnt?

whilst hitting the one who does in the pocket.....

can see why germany and france argued their case against the eu's timeframe for the posts anti monopoly policy...whilst we here in the uk well full steam ahead...and brown nsed the eu
Report dustybin November 26, 2014 1:29 PM GMT
no, they said that part of the floatation of a public company was that securing the uso was paramount
this was said to placate the public.

if they didnt like it or didnt ever intend to honour that pledge then why are they trying to make profit from it?
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 26, 2014 1:31 PM GMT
think what should happen is this.

if tnt and ther companies dont want to take on the uso they should pay a percentage of profits to royal mail for them having to...say 20 % on profits.

so they could cherry pick all they wanted
Report G1_Jockey_4 November 26, 2014 1:32 PM GMT

Telling lies or being insidious by the people trying to make capital from investment

Within 5 years I think many rural postcodes will have to pay an annual fee to get mail to their door. Mail will be left at regional sorting offices to collect for free.

I thought it would take a bit longer for this ball to start rolling after the float but I shouldn't be surprised.

Everybody knows the government have taken over the pension liabilities of the Royal Mail that they racked up before the privatisation took place.

Good riddance as well, let them fund their own pensions.
Taxpayers were fed up with bailing out the free spending and overpaid lame duck Royal Mail
Report macarony November 26, 2014 6:41 PM GMT
We already funded our own pensions, the Royal Mail stopped putting money into the fund in order to pay the government an higher levy. Do you understand?
Report Dr Crippen November 26, 2014 6:47 PM GMT
I understand how postmen and other poorly paid workers cannot afford to fund their own pensions out of their meagre wages.

What else is there to understand?

that's good
then why are they complaining they cannot make a profit now shareholders own them

They were making a profit before they were privatised

as for pensions
close the final pension scheme, it is what private firms do
so should the government when they cannot afford it
