Vets at a cattery in south London have put a morbidly obese cat on a strict diet in a bid to find it a new owner for Christmas.

The huge moggy, which weighs almost two stone, has been nicknamed Texas after one of the fattest American states by staff at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

The eight-year-old feline is probably the fattest cat the charity has ever encountered, a spokeswoman said.

Vets estimate his weight is proportionally the equivalent of a middle-aged man weighing 41 stone.

bloody hell. If there were such a thing as a Cat NHS, this specimen and his ilk would be putting a huge strain on it.
