Its a very obscure song. I think from the late 60's or 70's. Its a folksy song and I think it was by an American female artist. Heard it one night in a little bar in Krakow about 7 years ago and the barman give me the tape it was on but I lost the tape soon afterwards.
It was a song about a woman who dreamt of travelling the world and doing lots of things but she became depressed after she got married and had kids. She ended up jumping out of the window in her house.

Sounds a bit like I've never been to me.
Other than a visit to paradise, I don't believe she'd travelled outside of the contiguous United States. Hadn't even been to Maine.

Don't think it was in a film that won an Oscar and it also is not that last link which digdeep put up.
I am pretty sure the title of the song was a womans fist name. The same fictional woman who the song was about.

yes, Marianne faith was the version I had. Did not know who sung it until now so thought it was an American singer.
Belinda Carlisle did a cover that sounded similar. You might like that one too.
Been listening to some versions on youtube. I did not realise it was used on the film Thelma and louise.

Bowie's cover is worth a listen - Port of Amsterdam that is, not Lucy Jordan < Dr. Hook covered that as well I believe.
