This picture was taken just inside the main entrance of Southampton General Hospital, one of the biggest NHS teaching hospitals in the south - the same NHS that proclaims we should all be eating our five a day, exercising regularly and choosing healthy options.  Patients in beds are routinely wheeled along the corridor right past the Burger King (and other outlets in the hospital's shopping mall) depriving them of any kind of dignity, quite often when they are seriously ill.  Sad

MB, don't get me wrong I think the NHS for it's many failings is a fantastic free service that we are extremely lucky to have, it saved my life 18 months ago when a virus attacked my heart, but I have to say in relation to your post nearly all the female staff at my local hospital are obese, some super obese, I can't understand it. They all seem to suffer from that condition, whats it called? oh I remember an overactive knife and fork

the nhs is not free it's paid for by our taxes, but that picture is a disgrace, the rubbish they put in food is what puts most people in hospital in the first place, how was it allowed

I just think it's fundamentally wrong to use such companies to fund NHS services; the burger outlets and other shops attract a lot of people who would simply not visit the place otherwise, including undesirables; two weeks ago I was there and had my bag nicked by someone who I'm pretty sure was neither a patient or a hospital employee. What I find completely appalling though is the invasion of patients' privacy and dignity as they are wheeled along through chav central

governments fault.

target "junk food" when the real culprit is stuff like fructose laden foods.

Spot on, my incredulity is that employees in the "Health service" should not eat healthier.

well the employees at SGH do have a canteen (also open to the public) that serves proper food, but the BK is almost the first thing that greets you as you go in (having got through the shopping mall).

Everytime I walk past the local medical centre I seem to see the same group of fat women standing outside 'aving a ****, it really is a 'kin joke.
