A sandwich-making company is to search for new employees in Hungary after being unable to find enough applicants from Britain.
Greencore Group's new £35m factory in Moulton Park, Northampton, is due to open in the spring of 2016.
Human resources director Allyson Russell said most of its 300 new staff members would be recruited from Hungary.
She said "very low unemployment" in Northampton meant few people had applied for the positions locally.
Mrs Russell told the BBC recruiters would be heading to Hungary to find new employees.
"In Northampton, we do have a problem in that there is very low unemployment.
"There aren't enough people around and it is not always the kind of work people have wanted to do."
She said Greencore had run a scheme with job centres in Northampton, but had not attracted many applicants from the town.

They dont need to go to Hungary at all. They just need to offer more money. Thats the free market that the bosses of these places always use to justify their huge salaries. Its simple they are not paying the market rate for the job.
I thought these companies were offered huge financial incentives to locate in areas of high unemployment too.

I think they are looking at cheaper was to make lunches but they are keeping it under wraps.
I bet if they built the factory in almost any other midlands town they wouldn't have a problem filling the vacancies, but they already know that, all they want is people who think that the minimum wage is good money.
this is making me very angry, it is the sheer dishonesty of these humanresources managers,the lowest form of pondlife!

To be fair I remember a similar story from the 80's when Greggs at their Birmingham factory got in immigrants from Holland. Locally they made a real song and dance about Pastie Dutchie.

I wouldn't want to the job for minimum wage. It's no picnic working in these factories.

I wouldn't want to the job for minimum wage. It's no picnic working in these factories.
On the other hand, if some young lad decides he's going to get off his backside and apply for one of these jobs, he'd be his mother's pride.

The role: Working in 12 hours shifts, your duties will include spreading, squashing and packaging. Naturally you will have good feet, posture and dexterity with a plastic knife, but more important is your ability to stay awake during mundane activity.
In return you will be given some pocket money, a free hat and plastic gloves, and a locker (uniform charged from your first pay cheque). You will also be entitled to a discount on sandwiches, or free rejects of your choice from the production line.

I had a sandwich round once - wholesale business supplying to small shops etc.. Half the staff were part-time (6am - 10am) and the others were full-time (6am - 2pm). I had a few good reliable staff, but generally trying to get good staff to work those hours was a bloody nightmare !
Mine was only a small/medium size business, but for a large Sandwich company trying to get new employees from Hungary after being unable to find enough applicants from Britain..... I was not too surprised to read that !

Meanwhile building has begun to bring the city of Leicester five miles north into the countryside, Series of projects with staggered starting times involving around 7,500 homes.
Many bungalows with large gardens flattened close to us over the last few years, replaced by blocks of tiny apartments that are roughly the price of a two bedroomed house.
The numerous blocks of apts and small 40 home projects are never included in arguments about the lack of schools and infrastructure, as the council would prefer the public to complain about 5,000 homes on farmland, all the time ignoring the smaller projects that would total half that amount again.
Our company employs mainly European/African new labour these days as do many firms locally.
Given the sizes of the projects up the road in Notts/Derbys, the shift in people to provide cheap labour will be easily housed.
Get us to f**k out of this bank/buisness driven shambles of a continent.

All these food factory places these days employ immigrants...if the UK inhabitants want a job there they'd get one.
Fact is not many people want to work in a shiit job for the minimum wage so why not give the jobs to immigrants?

Half the workforce in these hell holes are agency.
Truly horrible company to work for, typical food production. Full of Cronyism, nepotism and bullying. Then there are the thick and ignorant kants.

I've worked in a food factory for one hour. Was truly horrible :) Not a job you pick if you have any choice.
They are also paid for what you work, great if it's a 12 hour shift, not so good if it's quiet and you are sent home after 4 hours.
You work 12 hours one day thinking you have done 4 hours overtime, but they send you home early another couple of days so you haven't worked enough hours to qualify for overtime. The company employ a large quantity of staff from the Agency and rotate them so they never have to pay overtime.
These types of jobs aren't all they're cracked up to be.
I worked for 2 years as a Manager in a similar type of company, they treat their full time staff terrible, but the Agency guys (mostly Asian or eastern European)are looked upon as 1 step up from slaves.
I got out as soon as I could.
The strange thing was that most of the Asians were minimum wage guys, used to working in sweat shops back home but married a British Asian husband or wife. The Eastern Europeans were mostly University educated and spoke good English learnt things quickly, but when a full time position became available they always took on the Asians.
I went through the Spanish Inquisition before they let me take on 2 Polish workers, she was cute and so was her husband. They had been there 4 years, it is the only time I have felt emotional offering someone a job. Both of them were in tears and asked me to delay the start dates because they lived in accommodation owned by the Agency and would need to find somewhere else to live.
I was giving them the job on merit, as a Manager the best workers who are going to cause me the least problems. They read something else into it I was invited to Christmas dinner with them, I declined. But New Years Eve with 25 Poles was fun, I had left the company in May but they rang me to come and put me up for the night.
Poles,Slovaks,Romanians,Hungarians,Irish,Welsh,Scots and even the English, people are people there's good and bad in all nations, most of it's good.
I have an interview at the UN tomorrow wish me luck.
