an ex of mine from years back was a midwife in Cornwall where this happened. Woman was a JW, refused blood, a group of JW elders were constantly hovering on the ward rattling on about the bible etc. The husband wasn't JW, the woman died of a postpartum hemorrhage leaving the husband to bring up twin boys without their mother. What makes it even more pitiful is that the JW's bloody policy has morphed to a point where it is nonsensical. In fact if they weren't worried about retrospective law suits they'd probably scrap it.
Ian McEwan has recently written a novel around a JW transfusion issue btw - The Children Act.

HH Sultan - whatever they were rattling on about, it sure wasn't the Bible...it was the "ETC." You certainly got THAT right.

The JWs who come to my door don't have a Bible. They are armed to the teeth with Watchtower tracts and pamphlets, but it's actually quite difficult to get a hold of a so called JW "Bible". I think it's called the New World Translation. There are a few listed on eBay (most times) but it's not easy to ascertain what they are. JW "Bibles" systematically remove or alter all references to the divinity of Christ.

One sure way to STUN JWs at the door is to say, "I believe that Jesus Christ is God Almighty," and they rock back on their heels...within a minute, their heads are in their chests and they're lost for words. So, whatever they are - and they're NOT Christians - they sure ain't "Bible thumpers."

Admittedly, some Christians ARE. Cool

One is the REAL THING and one is a chancer. Yet plenty of "experts" were willing to back the chancer, the FAKER. The same principle applies to all walks of life ; politics, sport, business, art, religion, etc. Remember Harry Lime from The Third Man? He was selling fake, adulterated penicillin.

It's no surprise that the Jehovah's Witnesses, with their fake religion and fake concerns, end up selling something lethal.

tbf Vel I've never seen them without a bible, albeit their own shoddily translated one. They just believe that a group of old blokes in NY are the only people able to "interpret" it for them. In effect they are in a cult run by an American publishing company. These Dark Lords certainly get in the way of them having a relationship with Jesus though: big time!
One of the texts they point to re blood is Acts 15:20 "but to write them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from what is strangled, and from blood."
Technically speaking they changed their stance on transfusion several years ago; to abstain from "whole blood" transfusions but able to accept fractions "if their conscience allowed it." Crazy

Later on, Paul explains that passage by talking about being strong in faith, and the person who is strong in faith can eat what he likes - I am partial to a bit o'black puddin' and Halal lamb myself - who gives a feck? - sometimes I just want to laugh out loud at the garbage being peddled by JWs.

So...like...am I the only one on here who chases after JWs and Mormons like a lurcher chasing a hare...? Blush

good to see they lost the first major lawsuit against them on Halloween just gone. 13.5 million USD for their part in covering up for paedos in their congregations. Many more suits to follow hopefully. A despicable cult with much blood on its hands (ironically).

There was a bit in one of the Sunday supplements about the 10 best paintings in the UK...No.1 top pop pick was Vermeer's "The Guitar Player" in Kenwood House, London...estimate : £125,000,000.

Van Meegeren unquoted. Sad

I was thinking of going round the doors next Halloween, dressed as Johnny Cash, singin' "God's Gonna Cut You Down.....ya basturt, ya rambler, ya gambler..."

I trialed it in Falkirk last week with limited success. Couldn't find an acoustic guitar - had to settle for a balsa wood flageolet.

They no longer knock my door Vel, preferring to try their luck with the Muslims next door.

This is another sad case where the real victim is the motherless child. Another example of the innocent and credulous becoming prey for the unscrupulous who seek to lead them.

You're right, Foinavon. I answer the door ; I've invited them in for a cup of tea - a rare occurrence for them I dare say - and they never come in. I'm baffled by what they're doing. They always look so miserable too. You're right - there are true victims, and lives are sometimes at stake.

Yes, I too was very polite and talked with them at length although as you may realise, my approach was diametrically different to yours. The effect of telling them that I am an atheist and that their little black book is full of inconsistencies was much the same as your opening remark though.
